Marathon runners - how many times per week do you run?

Marathoners, what is your training schedule?

I am running 4 days a week and have designed a training plan that is a conglomeration of 2 different ones. Do you think this is enough?

Monday - 2-3 miles + weight lifting
Tuesday - 5-6 miles
Wednesday - Pilates
Thursday - Speedwork or hill work (3-4 miles, will get longer as time goes on)
Friday - usually off or weights/eliptical
Saturday - Long run
Sunday - usually off or weights/eliptical

Total mileage per week is up to 22-25 right now

I really like weight training and have only been doing so 1 day a week! Argh! Also sometimes I slip in yoga if I have time but ultimately I want to know how many miles per week you are doing! Thx!

I'm training for a half marathon. This was the schedule I was given:

Mon: 3-3.5
Tues: 3.5-4 (4 as you get closer to race)
Wed: Rest or strengthening
Thurs: 3.5- 4 (4 as you get closer)
Fri: Rest or strengthening
Saturday: Long run
Sunday: rest

Sounds perfect. My first marathon I ran 4x a week and my second I ran 3x with spin class 2x and took almost 30 minutes off my time. Either 3 or 4x is exactly where you need to be!

Good luck!!

training for the NYC marathon this year, at this point in time dh would've been up to 30-32 miles per week. For the most part throughout his training dh would only take 2 days off per week. That's what his training program required (not a first-timers program). But occasionally he would take a 3rd day off if he was feeling too sore or too tired.

he's run 7.

I usually run 5 days a week, but there are definitely weeks when I take an extra day off.

my marathon is 10/11 and I'm running ~40 m/week

I try to run 4 days a week but some weeks I can only make 3.

Ok good - I am 4 days a week and I think that will suffice. My training program says 6 days a week (with some cross training) but that is just insane.

This is my first marathon and my goal is 4 hours....however I will be happy with 4.5 too.
