UPDATE W/ Another Question. ..Stripping the Membranes?
UPDATE: So since this morning after the Dr Stripped my Membranes ( at 9:00 am) I have had really bad cramping/contractions. This time starting from the back and radiating to the lower front. They def are worse than last nights and for about the past hour about 5/6 mins a part. I was only 2 cent dialted and 60% effaced this morning, would hin stripping the membranes already speed things up THIS FAST ALREADY??
After going to labor and delivery last night....and being sent home. I just dont want to have the same thing happen again tonight.
OR is it common to just have some intense cramping after having them strip your membranes, and it isn't contractions???
Sorry, I feel so clueless. And the resident in L & D made me feel like I was wasting her time last night. She said come back when u are in so much pain you want an epidural. I mean now the pain level is like a 6 ish.
EARLIER POST
I just wanted to ask those who had their membranes stripped if it helped to move things along??
I am 40 wks tomorrow, and at my appt this morning was 2 cm dilated and 50-60% effaced. The Dr stripped my membranes (OUUCH!!!) and said this may bring on labor in the next few days.
DID THIS WORK FOR YOU?? AND IF SO HOW LONG AFTER DID YOU GO INTO LABOR???
I have been having contractions the past 24hrs. I went last night to L&D after having three hrs of contractions about 5 mins a part....but then they ended up getting further apart by about 10 mins and less strong. I am hoping they will increase again.

Re: Does Stripping the Membranes work?? WithPoll!
I had my membranes stripped but still had to be induced with pitocin due to a spike in my blood pressure.

Re: Does Stripping the Membranes work?? With Poll!
Well, I did not officially get stripped but I got what my OB described as a really rough internal that could potentially get things going.
That night I went into labor. I was 37 weeks 6 days.
Well, the baby did not descend as he should have which caused me to have a REALLY rough delivery.
I trust my OB but when I think back I wonder if I had not gotten the internal that day would ds have dropped later on and would my delivery have gone smoother?
I mean, I'll never know- but next time I am not going to ask for the poking around.
HTH and ez labor vibes

I also didn't have an official "stripping of the membranes" but she gave me an intentionally rough internal. I did go into labor that night- but I was also already past my due date, so I may have gone into labor on my own, who knows for sure.

I had my membranes stripped 14 hours later Lara was born (but I too was 4 days over due) dont know if this made a difference.

Re: Does Stripping the Membranes work?? With Poll!
The dr did mine at 38 weeks and I was a half cm dilated... Went back at 39 weeks and there was no progress... He did it again and I went into labor two days later... one day before my due date... I dont know if it was what he did or it just happened on its own... but I feel he helped it along a bit..

Mine were stripped when I hit 40 weeks--nothing happened. I had to be induced.

My OB was really against doing it, till the very last minute when I wasn't progressing before being induced. It didn't work, I still needed to be induced.

Re: UPDATE W/ Another Question. ..Stripping the Membranes?
I never had my membranes stripped so I am not sure about that. I did want to tell you not to worry about stupid residents in L&D. My sister has 5 kids, and handles pain pretty well, so when she knew she was in labor, she went to the hospital. They tried to send her away, because she wasn't "exhibiting enough pain." Give me a break. She hung around the hospital, and sure enough she was in full blown labor. She was so far along she couldn't get an epidural. If you feel like you need to go back....just go. I personally wasn't in EXTREME pain, but I was in pain. Got there at 7pm, and had my daughter by midnight! GOOD LUCK!!

Re: UPDATE W/ Another Question. ..Stripping the Membranes?
Cramping definitely will happen after membrane stripping, or even just an internal. You were much further along (dilation/effacement) then I was, and I still went into labor that very night. For me, it was to the point where when I had a contraction I couldn't catch my breath and had to stop what I was doing. After weeks of cramping/BH there was no mistaking it when I was in real labor.
