UPDATE: WWYD - Working Moms
Starting 9/15, I returned to work FT - I was using vacation time spread out over the summer to work 3 days a week. September is our busiest time so I knew I had to be here FT the last 2 wks. Now I'd like to ask for 1 day a wk from home but strategically can't figure when I should do this and could use some input. Originally I planned to stick out FT until after the New Year so I could make sure that my asking for this didn't affect my bonus (given in December) but I don't know if I can last that long seeing Ryan for less than 1.5 hrs per day M-Fri. Also, we're trying to get to Disney in early November. So, essentially, if I try to ask for a day a week from home now - I might be risking denial of vacation time and it may affect my bonus. But the plus side is of course time with DC. WWYD? Stick it out til January or just risk vacation time/bonus now?
UPDATE: So I just went in to talk to my boss - I'm pretty sure my voice cracked as I gave my speech He said, "let me think about it, I'm inclined to do it, I know it's hard - but let me give it some thought".

Re: WWYD - work/child care
Hard to say...for me I'd say stick it out...but that's without knowing how accomodating they would be. Were they good about your flex schedule before?

Re: WWYD - work/child care
My argument to my boss will be that it'll only be on a day he is not here in the office and will be at his discretion. I'll make clear that it it not to replace childcare as Ryan is still enrolled in daycare full-time (so it'll never be like, "oh, sorry I can't come in I don't have anyone to watch the baby" - if something comes up or schedules change, I'd be here). My concern is by the time I get around to asking - Ryan will be 9months already - so much will be happening in the coming months that I don't want to miss. I should say also that we don't depend on my bonus to live, but it is alway useful for must-do projects around the house, etc.

Re: WWYD - work/child care
I don't see why working from home 1 day a week would be so bad - especially since you have to commute into NYC- that it would impact your bonus and vacation time- I mean - you are WORKING - just from home.
But then, my company won't let me work from home, even though my boss did when she had her baby (i'm very bitter about this) Are you sure you are getting a bonus? I'm assuming I am not b/c I wasn't working the full year -
I think it depends on how flexible your company is. But the tone of your email suggests to me that they are not very flexible. Therefore I'd probably stick it out so I could have the vacation time with DH and DC together...the bonus would not be that important to me (unless you rely on it for living expenses)

Re: WWYD - work/child care
I wanted to add that i've heard from other moms (and maybe some want to chime in here) that they would have traded some of their maternity leave for when the baby is 12 months plus, b/c DC is really learning new things everyday that they wish they were there for (more so than when they were younger).

He won't sc rew me completely on bonus - besides the fact, wouldn't it be illegal to not give me that b/c I was on leave? I am working for almost 9 months of the year.
It's usually about 3 months salary - so as I said, we don't depend on it for our monthly bills - but it makes a difference for us as far as what we can do to the house, etc.
The thing is, there is no reason I can't do my job from home - I just need a computer and phone which I clearly have. And I actually do do my job from home when I'm not in (even when I was "off" during the summer I logged in, and I'm always on call on weekends - which used to make me bitter but lately I appreciate this b/c I feel it gives me the agrument that I'm readily available and capable of handling things via satellite).

sorry - no help
I proposed my using vacation time to work PT to my boss while I was pg and he had no problem with it - but summer is a lot slower at my office. Also, he was so worried I'd give birth at the office I got an extra week's leave (and did almost proof him right!)

Re: WWYD - Working Moms - Quesion
I am not sure what I would do...probably stick it out I guess.
I am still sort of new at this whole FT, steady job with benefits thing...and am only into my 4th month at this new gig, but I do eventually plan on either asking to leave a smidge earlier on days it's not necessary for me to be here or work from home one day a week. It can easily be done at my position, so if I am in for the long haul I am going to ask in January or in December when we get our bonus. I want to do it now and badly, but I figure, I need to prove myself a little and then I can ask.
Maybe wait until you are back for a bit and then ask.

Re: WWYD - Working Moms - Quesion
I would ask for the one day a week at home - if they don't seem keen on the idea then I would turn around and say I guess I will have to work part time and see how it all falls.

I think I could go PT if I asked my boss for it - but we can't afford for me to work PT.

Leaving at a reasonable hour here is difficult - I don't get home til 7:30, 7PM on rare, rare occasions - and 7:30 is with me bolting and leaving before I really should. I do get in when I can though - I don't think I got on a train until 9 this morning
I would wait a little longer, but that only puts me closer to bonus time. To me, if I'm going to do it, I think I need to do it now so maybe he'll forget about my asking for a favor by bonus time
ETS: I have been here for 9 years

ETS: I didn't even tell DH I was doing this today (mentioned it a while ago but didn't bring it up again b/c I didn't want the added pressure if I changed my mind).
