Updated Q: Possible chicken pox shot reaction - has anyone DC had this?

Updated Q: I didn't call the ped b/c it didn't seem any worse today - a little different though. However, DH just came home and pointed out to me that it is worse than I thought b/c I didn't feel how it was under the skin - I am going to call the ped tomorrow but wondering if anyone ever experienced this - in the area where he got the shot there is a big lump it is red and inflamed - if you feel under the skin it goes deep - it is a hard large lump under the skin about an inch wide and the outside is swollen and red. Maybe it isnt related to the shot maybe it is but what could it be? TIA!

DS received the cp vaccine a week ago yesterday. He has been fine since. This morning he woke up with two lump like bumps that are red and inflamed each about a cm wide next to each other where he got the shot The whole area is swollen and inflamed. He has never had anything like this b/f. Is this a reaction to the shot? The start of one? An infection from it? He does not have a fever at all. I have noticed a few red pimple like dots on his legs (3) however, he gets this from time to time (only one usually) and i didn't think it was related but now i am not sure...

If you are worried why don't you call the doctor tomorrow if they are still there. Honestly, it sounds just like either nothing or maybe the bodies reaction to the virus - (which is good b.c it means that it is working- not a reaction to the shot ingredients). DD got a fever and a rash but I thought the ped said it usually happens 2-3 weeks after the shot.

I wouldn't worry about 2 or 3 bumps unless of course they look infected or he has a high fever. Esp if they don't seem to be bothering him.

He could have also touched something that is giving him a little contact dermatitis - neither which isn't serious.Chat Icon

Thank you - if they get worse i will call tomorrow. It is definitely something b/c the area is red, raised and swollen around the two bumps and he has never had anything like this b/f. What is strange is that my ped said if he had a reaction it would be one week - 10 days later Chat Icon So i guess its 1-3 wks Chat Icon

My ped told me that after a week she may have reactions of pox marks, but that they would be countable, and she shouldn't (which she didn't) have any physical reactions like itching.... They have gone away since then.

Thanks! Yeah, that was some of what the ped told me i could expect too - that is why i was concerned about this since it wasn't one of the things he mentioned. It is still completely inflamed and swollen today and the lump under the skin is large and hard so i called...My ped is not in today so i spoke to the on call dr. - she said it sounds like either an allergic reaction to the shot or an infection from the shot. I am going to bring him in tomorrow when the ped is in. Thank you though!
