I agree with OP we can tell you we all love the bag but its what you feel comfortable with. Also I like the idea suggested that he come with you and help you pick an alternate bag that way he feels that he still picked it.
That was an incredibly sweet gesture and obviously he went store to store looking for it.
I do like the bag but it is HUGE in person (still beautiful) but personally I would go for the MM. Also keep in mind you will not be using it for diapers forever and still want to be rockin the bag

my DH's best friend bought his wife a $2,000 designer bag & was so happy and excited to give it to her. he thought he'd get the husband of the year award & was just genuinely trying to make her happy. she told him she'd rather a different bag &, although he didnt let his wife know, he told DH that it really hurt his feelings. he thought he was getting her the best present ever & she exchanged it for something else & it made him really sad. just something to consider....esp since you said your DH thought of you when he saw it & picked out that specific bag for you. guys have more feelings than they let on sometimes
ETA: that bag is gorgeous & practical too! I have a speedy in that pattern & i use it all year long (if it goes with my outfit) GL!

i love it but I would exchange it for the Ebene color. It's a large bag and will take a beating plus darker is better for the upcoming months
love the neverfull in the ebene damier

Update: I ultimately decided to keep the bag! But, only after going to the store to return it.
We go to LV to return it and I'm talking to the woman and mention that I think the bag is too big. She tells me I can pull the straps to tighten it and I told her I tried that and demonstrated. Well, she shows me that everyone does this incorrectly and tightens the straps for me and TRANSFORMED the bag. It has a completely different shape that I LOVE!!! I was so happy, literally smiling and just feeling elated. My DH was so happy too.
I initially decided to return it bc I couldn't justify my DH spending that money on something I didn't like but now that I LOVE it, I have no issue keeping it. I actually already used it on Sunday. I could tell my DH was really happy I kept it.
Oh, and she confirmed that it is a cream/winter white bag and thus appropriate for the winter wear. Suggested pairing it with a winter white coat.
