Oh Michelle, I'm so very sorry. You made the right decision, he wouldn't have wanted to suffer like this.
I'm sorry I'm only responding to this now- I've pretty much been in bed for the last 3 days and haven't been reading many of the posts. Please know that I'm here for you. I know how hard this is on you. I remember what a toll it took on me when we lost my first dog, who was my childhood pet... it's such an awful experience. You and your DH will be in my prayers. Please take comfort in knowing that he's waiting for you at the rainbow bridge.
