UPDATED!!!! Would you take DC to the ped. for a cough?
DS has never had a cough before. I noticed the past few days at night he would cough in his sleep but I thought it was more from excess drool from teething or something like that. Last night he woke up with a 102.5 fever and a horrible cough that sounds like he's barking. He doesnt seem to have a cold. I gave him some motrin and he went back to sleep. This morning he woke up with no fever, but still has the cough. Should I give it a couple of days or take him to the ped.?
UPDATE
I took him to the ped. and sure enough he has the croup. The ped. gave me a mild low dose steroid.

A barking cough could be croup - I would at least call the ped and see what they say.

Sure for a barking cough I would - just if nothing else to have his chest checked for fluid. It could be croup if he is coughing at night - that isn't an illness per se - but a swelling that causes the sound - they can get croup from allergies or a virus like a cold or other respiratory illness. A humidifier and sitting in a room with the shower on hot should help open him up a bit.

I would call the Ped just to see what they say. In the meantime I would use a humidifier, put baby vicks on his feet with socks and start a hot shower and let him breath in the steam. It seems to really help.
I hope Tyler feels better!!!

Re: Would you take DC to the ped. for a cough?
I would call the Ped to see what they think. DS had a cough a couple of weeks ago with no fever. It was not a bad cough but after a few days I I called to see what they thought. They wanted to see him since bronchitis was going around down here. Turns out he had tonsilitis and and ear infection. I was glad I went.

I'd definitely take him. You want to make sure his chest is clear. Last time I took Thomas for cough, he had an ear infection.
