Urban Dwellers-- Best Strollers for City Moms?

OK-- so, we started pouring into our Baby Bargains book-- and all I gotta say is that baby planning is not as fun as wedding planning. I guess that makes me a baby mommy, but whatev.

So, this is what I have come away with..

Bugaboo Cameleon-- cadillac of the bunch
Bugaboo Frog-- second choice
Quinny Buzz-- best lower cost alternative
Musty Urban Rider-- too expensive to NOT get a Bugaboo

Anyone have experience in looking at these and can provide some insight??

This is probably not much insight for you, but I got the bugaboo chameleon. I had a peg perego with my son and i really did not like it. I like the bug because i can use it as a snap and go, a bassinett and a stroller. Plus we are beach people and i dont need to get a seperate jogger stroller because the wheels are all terrain. i think it is worth the cost.

I am thinking the same thing-- like, if something in the same category is only a little less-- after a coupon (if you can use them), I'd rather get the best out there.

I looked at the bu frog and chameleon.

The only difference between the tow is that the CHameleon is availablein dual tone colors, you can adjust the handle bar up and down (it telescopes) and you are able to adjust the shocks on it which aparantly is good for when the child gets larger.

I didn't care so much about the dual tone color and shocks but we decided to register for teh chameleon so that DH doesn't have to hunch over when he is pushing the stroller, he is 6'2".

HTH!

Re: Urban Dwellers-- Best Strollers for City Moms?

I actually loved the Mutsy when I saw it, I loved the fact that it was higher than the Bugaboo which is what irked me the most about the Bugaboo....I'm actually a LI dweller, but opted for the Cameleon bc it was sooo light that it made sense for me considering I will be in and out of the car and didn't want something heavy to lug in and out of the car....
If you don't mind weight, check out the Peg Perego Skate, it recently came out and I looooved it. It's the same price as the Cameleon, but you don't have to have a bassinet and a seat, the seat is basically all in one...I thought for someone that didn't have to go in and out of the car and the fact that it can fold with the seat on helps with storage in apts!!!

ugh, that's annoying... Someone else will probably get it for us anyway-- but annoying nonetheless!

Oh I hated the skate....It was so flimsy and looked cheaply made for the price I was extremely disapointed! It was also SOOOOOOOOOOO much heavier!!!

Good to know! DH is 6'3", so that's a really good point.

Re: Urban Dwellers-- Best Strollers for City Moms?

there are many more options than just those for urban dwellers....

while I'm a village suburbanite (half walk around town, half haul cr@p in a car), the stroller we chose is equally suitable for urban folk (bumbleride indie).

I really think it's best to just consider where your stroller will go (bumpy sidewalks, subway, taxis?) and then use that to determine the features you need (light, easily collapsible, large wheels, decent storage).

finally, go to a shop with a lot of strollers (baby central in brooklyn, albee baby in uptown manhattan) and play with the store models. you'll find out what is best for you and what is sturdy.

oh, and if your DH is tall (I'm 5'9" and DH is 6'3") you want adjustable handle bars... very few models have that (our indie does! Chat Icon )

See and I thought the complete opposite I thought even though I got the Cameleon that the Skate was much more sturdy and better made than the Bugaboo, my father hated the Bugaboo bc he thought it was so flimsy and loved the skate bc he thought it was 10x more sturdy...the boutique we actually saw it in the owner concurred that the Skate is better made than the Bugaboo since Bugaboo recently started building everything in China the quality has gone down a bit, but its still the most popular none the less..but the Skate was MUCH heavier and thats why I didn't end up getting it...

yes i wanted to say too that the chameleon is light and that its easy to take the bassinnett off and on. The only pain part is that you have to take it apart to put in the car. it doesnt look hard though.

DO you mean you thought the frog was flimsy? Because the chameleon is made by bugaboo????

100 percent agreed, we were in the store for a few hours comparing, but we're also insane and like to hang out in baby stores...well at least I do Chat Icon

I've looked at all the strollers mentioned in this thread, but in the end...decided to go with the "Orbit" stroller. It's a bit more expensive than the ones posted, but worth it in my opinion. It was SO easy to fold up and to unfold as well. I LOVE the way it's an infant car seat and toddler car seat, I love the way it rotates to snap in and out...etc, etc...

Basically, you really DO have to go and try each one out and see what works and FEELS best to you!

Good luck!

Funny that this topic came up. I was looking at strollers today. I 99% sure that I'm going to go with the chameleon. I really like the skate but the lady in the store said that it is SO heavy. Nice that it folds up as one piece but who cares when you can barely lift it. I think the orbit it so cool but my DH things it is weird looking. The lady in the store really liked the quinny because it is easy to fold. Has anyone ever seen the stokke? That is a cool/weird looking one!!! My DH hated it!!!! So many choices Chat Icon !

I actually really liked the Stokke too, but the orbit was my final choice. My DH didn't like the Stokke either...lol. He thought it was weird looking and didn't like how high it was...
