It IS scary. And it's really hard to remember the days when things like shoe bombs and terror aleret levels were non-existent. The world is truly a different place now. Chat Icon

I wonder who thwarted the plot? I bet it was JACK BAUER and CTU! WOOOT-WOOT! Jack's the MAN! Chat Icon

I work for one of the airlines that is targeted, I am so happy that I am off right now on mediacl leave.
Although, more likely then not it will be safer to fly now with the scrutiny.

I'm flying early Tuesday and Saturday morning....

I wasn't planning on checking any luggage because the flight is not direct and I'm afraid they're going to lose it and we're going to be stuck in Vegas with nothing. Chat Icon

Mine isn't direct, either but I have no choice but to check it unless I want to have all my stuff taken away. I land at midnight; I'm going to be too tired for CVS in Omaha!

this is so scary. I can't imagine if they didn't stop them.
I have a 6am flight to NYC tomorrow morning.
Even if it takes longer, I am glad for the extra security.

I'm flying to Dublin in a few weeks. Thank goodness for good old neutral Aer Lingus. I'm also going to London while I'm over there, but that will be on another Irish airline. Hopefully I don't have anything to worry about except longer lines at airport security Chat Icon

I just emailed all my friends in the UK to make sure they are not travelling today.Chat Icon

I don't think anyone in the UK is traveling today! Heathrow is closed to all flights except for those taht were enroute when the restrictions were imposed.

I know easyjet has cancelled all of their flights.

Re: US-UK Terror Airplane Plot

I guess if you have to fly this is going to be he safest time to do so. what always worried me was later after al the dust settles and some people forget and become laxidazicle (sp?). That's when I'm afraid something slips by!

A friend of mines neighbor works for a security firm that tests airport security. About a year after 9/11 he said it was amazing how many times he was able to sneak a fake hand grenande through security by hiding it in his coffee. He would purposely have something on him that would set off the metal detector. He would then put the cup down on the other side of the booth and proceed to empty his pockets for them. They would run the scanner over him and then clear him.. He then took hiscoffee and moved on.

I was terrified when he told us this.

They are only allowing "essential items" and they must be put in clear plastic bags that the airline is giving out.

"Essential items" are eyeglasses, medicines, diapers for babies, a wallet.

They are not allowing any laptops, PDA's etc. for business travelers.

Looks like just about everything needs to be checked.

Now I'm gettting a flashback to last July 7th when I was in London for the bombingChat Icon

where does it say you cant bring laptops and stuff (something a little more reputable than fox news)? also eyeglass cases you cant bring?

i am moving to australia next week, how the h*ll am i going to pack everything when i cant even bring my laptop in my carry on.

Those restrictions seem to be in effect for flights coming from, going to, or through the UK.
Here is info on the American Airlines website.

Re: US-UK Terror Airplane Plot

The information I'm getting from my company is that only flights to and from the UK are not allowing carry-ons and electronics. Within the US, there is only a restriction on liquids for all flights. Thankfully, flight crews are exempt, otherwise this will be a very expensive three-day I'll be working....
