UTI question
I woke up yesterday with pain down there, an intense urge to urinate constantly (even right after going), and burning when I pee. I've had UTIs before so I know the feeling well and knew this was what was going on. It was pretty painful right off the bat. I called my OB and let him know. He sent me right in for a urine culture at the local lab but said he didn't want to prescribe anything until he got the results and to just drink a lot of water in the meantime. Mind you, I told him I was already in a decent amount of pain and uncomfortable even when not peeing.
I called today to find out if the results were in. I was told that the urine culture results can take up to 3 days and I likely wouldn't have results until Monday at the earliest. My OB STILL will not prescribe anything until he has the results. The pain has lessened a lot over the last 24 hours and the frequency of urination has also decreased, but since we're going into a weekend here I'm a bit concerned that if it gets worse over the weekend I really cant do anything about it.
So, I'm curious how normal this is. Should my OB be prescribing an antibiotic right now just in case? I'm pretty much positive that it's a UTI and I also have a history of kidney stones, so my fear is that it may end up as either a bladder infection or kidney infection if it's not treated quickly. Then again, it may be totally fine to wait until Monday and I could be over-reacting.

UTI question a
I had a UTI when I was about 10 weeks. They gave me an antibiotic right away, didn't wait for the results. I'm surprised they don't want to treat immediately. Untreated UTIs are not good during pregnancy.
Feel better!!!

Re: UTI question
Yeah that sounds a bit strange. In the meantime drink a TON of water and drink cranberry juice- but the straight up, bitter kind, not the sweet cocktail kind. Get 100% organic cranberry juice- S&S has it in the organic section. It tastes like shitt so dilute it in your water. That suckss, I know how painful and uncomfy a UTI is. UGH!!

Re: UTI question
I had a UTI (not pregnant) and a urgent care office used a rapid test for immediate results. If it comes back negative, then they also culture it. Maybe try that route?

UTI question
You can get a uti pain relief over the counter. It's called uricalm or uristat. You only take it for two or three days max, it changes your pee neon orange, but it's only paim reliever that helps. I would call the dr and make sure it's ok to take while pregnant. Uti's are the worst!

UTI question
I was in a similar situation as you. 32 weeks and I went to the hospital with contractions. They sent me home because they passed. In the meantime they took all the cultures. In about a week my doctor called to tell me it was a UTI the prescribed me the meds. I was in excrutiating pain for a week!
