Do you take vacations, say for a week, and not go anywhere?

No, if I am taking a week I am going away somewhere, although now that I am pg and with the new house, my next vacation will probably be just staying home and fixing up the place etc.

I did last fall, because DH just started a new job and I had already requested the time off. It was great - so relaxing. I got some stuff done around the house, watched movies, went out to lunch a few times and cooked dinner every night. I think it was actually harder to come back to work after that week, than when I go away for a week

yes all the time, mainly because we dont have cash to go away that much and I get a lot more vacation days then DH. I think he gets 2 weeks total and I get almost 5 weeks, so I use them to just stay home or I lose them.

DH gets 2 weeks in the summertime and we stay home, we usually go out on the boat everyday though.

Hardly ever do I take my vacation days to just stay local (around home, etc)
Or should I say, I will take a random day here or there as 'vacation' to just chill out (aka a mental health day.)
But extended vacation time, I always make sure I have plans to go away

Generally no, since I have so little vacation time. A day here and there maybe to get something done, but not much.
DH has lots of time though, so he'll take days and not go anywhere.

I used to get a lot of vacation time at work. So I would always take the week between X-mas and New Years. Plus, I would take long weekends just to hang around at home.

Absolutely! It's very relaxing and I get to get little things done around the house as well as go out to the city, out east, etc...
I almost always take the week between Christmas & New Years for this purpose.

DH and I both teach but our schedules do not match at all, except for December and August. We didn't go away this past Dec. because we wanted to work on the house.

I do. I am fortunate that I have flex time at work. I can carry over 4 weeks at a time. When I started working I never took vacation so I have accumulated alot of vacation time. I have 40 days this year (8 weeks). I can only carry over 4 weeks so I have to take 4 weeks off. I will take off a week just to relax.

I took off Wednesday before New Years to after New Years and I didn't go anywhere. I had the vacation days and wanted to use them before I lose them. I did have a friend in from out of town, so I got to spend some time with her.
Usually I go away somewhere, just not this time.

in that case...no
I take off a day or two together or liek a Friday and then a Mon-Tuesday to have a LONG weekend.
But I dont ever take a week off at a time unless We are going away.

We've done a week off to relax at home & wound up heading to Montauk for 4 days.
Mostly I take a day or 2 off.
