Vacations w/o DH?

Two girlfriends and I went on vacation together, and we just got back today. It was a blast - five days with my girls in the gorgeous Florida sunshine. But we got some interesting looks from people when they saw we were married but left our husbands home. Do you/have you ever gone on vacation w/o your DH?

I went to Montauk with one of my girlfriends for a long weekend. DH didn't mind and I wouldn't mind he did a guy weekend.

Re: Vacations w/o DH?

I don't have a close group of girlfriends. And, lots of my friends aren't married yet and are still into bars/clubs.

I would rather go away with DH Chat Icon

Re: Vacations w/o DH?

I just came back form Dominican with my 2 girlfriends.

Dh was fine with me going he is the one who told me I should go with them, b/c we are buying a house soon and ttc soon so this might be the last one for a while.

Some of the people there were shocked that we were there without our husbands.

I just dont get it, isn't that what a healthy relationship is all about.

I probably will not do it again for a while, I missed dh so much, I was homesick, but I do suggest it for everyone

I just got back from a weekend in Vegas for a bachelorette party. It was probably one of my last chances for "Girls Weekend" too.

I think it's fine, and a healthy thing to do.

For me personally though, I wouldn't want to take a major trip (i.e. an entire week, to Europe, etc.) without DH. DH and I discussed this trip and luckily me going didn't mean that we needed to cancel the other 2 trips he and I are taking this year so I went for it. For me, if I had to give up our anniversary trip to go on this one, I wouldn't have. But that's not to say that I think someone else wouldn't or shouldn't make a different choice.

Rachel - I think it is 100% fine. I actually just got back from vacation with my parents and in July, I am going on vacation with a few of my pledge sisters.

I haven't but it definately doesn't mean I wouldn't! I think it would be really fun! Only problem is many of my friends are broke and we never discussed doing anything like this!

Re: Vacations w/o DH?

I think its great. I just dont have anyone to go with!! My married friends have kids, and my single friends are too into clubs and bars and i dont think it would be my idea of a vacation.

Re: Vacations w/o DH?

I'm actually planning a trip back to New York next month for my sister's graduation and just to basically visit my whole family. But DH can't get off work, so I'll be going alone. At first I was like "hell no! All or nothing!!" Either he came with me or I didn't go at all. But then i rethought it. Me & DH have a strong enough relationship that we can handle a weekend without one another. I'll miss him like CRAZY though!! (thus being the reason I'm not staying long). I don't think I'd make a habit of it though. I just don't like us being apart. We had a long distance relationship in the past and it was torture. Now that we're married, we're kinda making up for lost time. We don't like spending even a full day without one another

I would so like a weekend away with my friends. I go to Italy with my family for about two weeks without him - but that is to visit family

I wouldnt do like a tropical "real" vacation without him though, I would just want him there!

Re: Vacations w/o DH?

I just got back yesterday from 5 days in Jamaica with my mom, sister and aunt. It was awesome to just be away and have fun with them. I def missed dh alot and honestly I don't know how quickly I would do it again..but I think once in awhile you need to have a lil girl time.

Re: Vacations w/o DH?

Honestly i've done a few days away w/fam or friends..or i've even gone on a vacay a few days earlier than dh or stayed longer w/out him..& it's just not for me.. while i do have fun, all i think about is getting home, or how much i'd like experiencing it w/dh there. I dont know - i guess it's just not for me lol.. but for those who do actually enjoy it - good for you! more power to ya!

Absence makes the heart <3 grow fonder - you are secure enough in your relationships to spend time apart - good for you !

Every all girl trip I've ever gone on has ended in disaster. Unless its for a weekend or less, I'm only going away w/DH.

I've taken mini vacations. Like weekend trips to the Hamptons or to AC or the Jersey Shore. I'm all for it.

I have to admit - even though I love visiting family in Italy - I usually cry at least once a day, its pathetic.

I have and can't wait to go it again. He has gone away without me as well. As much as we enjoy out time together, we also need time alone with our friends.

I think this is presumptous, because a person prefers to enjoy vacation with their spouse does not equate to them being insecure in their relationship.
