varicocele
DH's doctor just told him that he has a varicocele, the doctor really didn't seem concerned with it, but I don't think that he knows that we're TTC... What is our next step? Should he just wait until he goes back for a visit in 10 weeks and just ask then? I'm not sure if it will affect fertility, but any info is appreciated! Thanks for your help

Re: varicocele
My understanding is that varicocele can be a cause of male factor infertility. Has your DH had a SA? If not, I would request one ASAP to find out how your DH's swimmers are doing.

Re: varicocele
DH has bi-lateral varicoceles and they are the result of our IF. I would schedule an SA asap. Varicoceles are very common and alot of times they do not cause IF but alot of times they do. It depends on how big it is. Some are small and have no affect on sperm count etc but I would have an SA done for peace of mind.

I agree. Although DH is fine, a close familiy member of mine went through this. He should schedule a SA right away.

Re: varicocele
My DH had surgery to repair his varicocele in October. We found out after 6 months of trying that we were dealing with pretty severe Male factor IF because of this. He had a very low SA. His count, and motility were very low and it was determined that w/o the surgery it would be very difficult for us to get pregnant naturally. 3 months after the surgery and taking a lot of vitamins his count is up almost to normal. The motility was still low but we are hoping to see real improvement on all accounts by May. I would ask either your primary car dr. or a urologist for a script for the SA and take it from there. Varicoceles are not uncommon and many people do get pregnant it all depends on how severe it is. Hopefully in your case it won't be anything to worry about but it's worth getting it checked out sooner rather than later. GOOD LUCK! and FM if you have any other questions.

Re: varicocele
DH also has a varicocele. For us, it's a HUGE problem since DH only has one testicle (due to testicular cancer). DH had a varicocelectomy last January and things started to improve. However, the varicocele has reoccurred and his counts were horrible. He started Clomid a few months ago and will have another varicocelectomy in June.

Re: varicocele
thanks for all of your replies - I appreciate it! I will tell him to ask the doctor when he goes next month if he can get a SA - he can just ask our primary care dr for a prescription right? thanks!
