Re: Vent: 1st Day Over Zealous Moms and the Bus stop...
Ok ok....Im one of those moms! And PROUD OF IT! My daughter is now 12, and I still take pics of her first day EVERY year.
Shoot me. I won't get that time back, she's so big now. She will be looking into colleges in a couple of years, and damn right...I will be taking pics of her in her dorm room.
It's the first day...cut these moms a break.

Re: Vent: 1st Day Over Zealous Moms and the Bus stop...
I am so that mom. They are walkers now (our district boots them off the bus after 2nd grade) - but every year I was there camera in hand...
And the first day I actually followed the bus in my car so I could learn the route and watch it pull into the school!!

Re: Vent: 1st Day Over Zealous Moms and the Bus stop...
Ok, one thing I did not think of was getting on the bus to make sure the little ones are buckled in... that I can TOTALLY understand. But if you are simply getting on to take pictures, that is a little much. My son's first day of Kindergarten was today and I was taking pics of him left and right, so I understand all the mommas on here wanting to capture such a special day, but there is a limit, and getting on the bus simply to get a pic IMO is one of them.

I *WISH* with every ounce of my heart that I could be THAT MOM, but I am already at work by the time my kids get on the bus.
I am grateful for neighbors who were substitute THAT MOMs and took the pictures for me. Seeing my boys get on the bus on the first day of school (especially kindergarten) in pictures means the world to me. Don't take that away from someone.

I am SHOCKED that the bus driver allowed any parent to get on the bus. In my district, parents are not allowed on the bus.
And, honestly, its the 1st day... cut them some slack... its one day of the year.

Re: Vent: 1st Day Over Zealous Moms and the Bus stop...
It's the first day, I'd let a lot of things roll off my back! I will be THAT mom both tomorrow as my 2nd grader heads off, and again on Thursday, as my baby girl gets on the bus for the first time for Kindergarten! It's just not *me* though to be the type to actually get on the bus with them! I am too reserved for that.

I was that "idiot" today and I could care less that you had to wait for a WHOLE 15 minutes so I could capture a memory for a lifetime. AND I waited 15 mins for the bus to show up late to my house too. Big deal!
God, you should be so lucky that THIS is your biggest complaint in life.

Re: Vent: 1st Day Over Zealous Moms and the Bus stop...
Last year I took a *lot* of pictures.
This year we went out there, it was raining and cold, and then we realized that we missed the bus, so I had to quickly buckle everyone up in the car and drive over to the school.
Unfortunately I only ended up with 4 pictures and I am so disappointed about it.
So tomorrow on Day 2 it just might be me AGAIN so that we'll have all of those important pictures to look at years from now!

It is one day. Cut the mom some slack. I cannot wait until I get that opportunity next year. I take photos of the first and last day of preschool now.

Re: Vent: 1st Day Over Zealous Moms and the Bus stop...
IMO your definition of "over zealous" moms = moms that want to preserve their kid's memories...
trust me... the kids aren't being inconvenienced.
they get to school when the bus gets them there... they won't miss an important lecture.

I am SHOCKED that the bus driver allowed any parent to get on the bus. In my district, parents are not allowed on the bus.
If it's a first day, there could be a few reasons for it.
Sometimes a parent needs to get a stage 5 clinger off their arm.
In other districts, the parents are to ensure that the child is buckled & can work the seatbelt.
Now, that's start discussing how to get the bus driver's fingerprints & social security number.

The first day my DD gets on a bus you better believe I will be THAT mom, hey I think I'll be the stage 5 clinger and not my DD...and if I want to take a picture of me sitting on the bus drivers lap I will It's the first day of school...I think being late the first day bc of "over zealous" mom's is expected by the school..

Your bus driver will actually get off the bus to do this?
Maybe I am too much of a BTDT parent but I have never seen anything like that. Pictures at home, pictures at the bus stop, yes. Nothing with the bus driver, nothing on the bus.

WHAT is the big deal here ladies?? This is so ridiculous...are your kids that old that you are so far removed from the novelty of the 1st day of school?
OP...I am an "idiot" because I want a nice picture for my son's scrapbook? Really Sharon?
I stepped up the stairs to make sure the lady buckled my son into the seat belt correctly. It's the first time he's getting into a vehicle with no car seat. I'm such an idiot huh? Well I'm a really BIG dummy, because I even snapped a pic of him sitting in his seats I'm such a loser! Not only did I have to wait the extra 15 minutes for the bus to get to my house, I caused the bus to wait an extra 5 minutes {{GASP}}
Can you feel the sarcasm?

Re: Vent: 1st Day Over Zealous Moms and the Bus stop...
First, can we PLEASE stop the eye rolling & name calling. It's just not necessary. I always found that one of the advantages of this board is it is a BTDT group. We can all give our perspectives without that kind of cr@p.
Second, school bus drivers do step out of the bus to introduce themselves to the kindergarten parents, helps a kid with their huge amount of school supplies, etc. At least when my kids took a bus they did.
If I can get a cop in Arizona to give me his hat & pose for a photo while giving us a speeding ticket, I'm sure there are school bus drivers would take a minute if it was a quick shot.

Re: Vent: 1st Day Over Zealous Moms and the Bus stop...
Our bus came within a minute of when they said it should, and we saw the bus at the previous stop before that. If our bus was 15 minutes late, and it was our first day at the bus stop, I would assume it was MY fault that I somehow missed the bus. DD would have been freaking out, and we would have had to rush to the car and drive them to school, then they would have walked into class late. No kid wants to walk into class late on the first day, especially older kids.
I took several pics, but did not hold the bus up at all. IMHO, I didn't think it was fair to the other kids, or other parents.

Did I say he would get off the bus? I will go on the bus!!!! My step-sons and I took a picture on their first day of school with their bus driver. His name is Harvey and he is awesome! He has been their drivers for years. Everyone feels nice and comfortable leaving their kids with him. I have been a step-mom for 8 years and a mom for 3.5, and I think it is so wonderful that parents care that much about their kids first day of school. Maybe you just have a lame bus driver.

No, I never said it NEVER happens I just said I have never seen it in the 9 years I have been going to the bus stop-lol!! My child is still young, 7 going on 8 so we still "do" the 1st day of school pictures and getting ready, etc. I am not that "far" from the novelty of it but I was and never will be that mom that goes on the bus to take a ton of pictures and hold up the bus and other children from getting to school. I am also not the mother who will follow the bus to make sure they get to school or sit there and cry and mourn all day while they are gone-lol!!
