Our bus came within a minute of when they said it should, and we saw the bus at the previous stop before that. If our bus was 15 minutes late, and it was our first day at the bus stop, I would assume it was MY fault that I somehow missed the bus. DD would have been freaking out, and we would have had to rush to the car and drive them to school, then they would have walked into class late. No kid wants to walk into class late on the first day, especially older kids.
I took several pics, but did not hold the bus up at all. IMHO, I didn't think it was fair to the other kids, or other parents.
ITA. My 3rd grader was nervous enough to get to school. I don't think it would be fair to hold up the bus many times for parents to get on the bus to take pictures. A few pictures at home and at the stop are fine with me (as that is what I have done and still do) but with the driver and on the bus? lol!!

Dude, I plan on taking a group picture with school bus driver and all, when my DD starts Kindergarten! It is the first day of school, be happy so many people love their kids.
Your bus driver will actually get off the bus to do this?
Maybe I am too much of a BTDT parent but I have never seen anything like that. Pictures at home, pictures at the bus stop, yes. Nothing with the bus driver, nothing on the bus.
Did I say he would get off the bus? I will go on the bus!!!! My step-sons and I took a picture on their first day of school with their bus driver. His name is Harvey and he is awesome! He has been their drivers for years. Everyone feels nice and comfortable leaving their kids with him. I have been a step-mom for 8 years and a mom for 3.5, and I think it is so wonderful that parents care that much about their kids first day of school. Maybe you just have a lame bus driver.
You might not have but another poster did say the driver has gotten off the bus. No, not a lame driver, just one who is doing their job of getting the kids to school in a timely fashion.

I could see having a problem if this was an every day occurrence. I would even get annoyed. But on the first day, I think it's kind of an expected thing that buses will be late.

Oh, I agree but to hold kids up for a long period of time to take pictures with the bus driver on or off the bus, for parents to be going on the bus to take pictures is too much. The kids are excited and nervous already and they just want to get to school.
It seems the parents are making it more for THEM then the children and what the whole day is about.

Sigh...I am not asking anyone to agree with me. I said I agree with the OP. I am allowed to have my own opinion like the OP.

Someone actually got on the school bus?? That is ridic and deserves and eye roll. Nothing wrong with getting pics of kids getting on the bus and sitting in their seat from the outside... but to actually step onto the bus for a pic is a little overboard.
Really???? I did it last year since my boys were nervous about the bus and I wanted to make sure they were ok. Guess I am overboard, but oh well. You should really get some better things to worry about if this is your biggest complaint.

First, can we PLEASE stop the eye rolling & name calling. It's just not necessary. I always found that one of the advantages of this board is it is a BTDT group. We can all give our perspectives without that kind of cr@p.
It wouldn't be LIF if people weren't condesending @ss holes.

Maybe I am harsh too but I agree with the poster. There is nothing wrong with taking pictures of the kids before school, I have done it every year with my kids BUT to make the kids late is not right. They are nervous enough and there is no reason to have a shot of the kid every step of the way to the bus stop, getting on the bus and on the bus.
I agree.. I got a picture of my kid quickly- there is no need to take a photo at every step of the way and hold up the whole process... not to mention making THAT big of a deal probably makes your kid (and all of the kids) nervous.
It was my daughter's first day of Kindergarten but that doesn't mean she is the center of the world and schedules shouldn't be kept so I can have a mini shoot with her.

Exactly. I love my kids just as much as the next mother but they are not the only child going to school. Get the memories you want (as we all want to have them too) but respect others too.

Really??? Woah, calm down. Its not my biggest complaint, i just said that to get onto the bus to take pictures is a little much IMO. If you need to strap in your kids or if they are crying, different story, but to stand there and take pics of them in the seat, and then with the bus driver, I think its overboard.

Re: Vent: 1st Day Over Zealous Moms and the Bus stop...
I guess I can see both sides- My friend's son became extremely upset after the bus hadn't arrived on time. It was his first time riding the bus and was already nervous about school. She waited until almost 20 min. after the bus should have arrived and ended up driving him to school the first day. My son doesn't ride the bus, but I can guarantee I'd also have taken plenty of photos. After hearing about how scared her son was, I'd personally think twice about the length of time I took taking photos the following year.

The buses are always late the first week of school. DS is in 3rd grade and none of us were taking pics and it was still 15 mins late (he's the last stop) The drivers are learning their routes so it does take time for everyone to get back in the groove.

I find NOTHING wrong with photos and take them every year with my kids. I just do that at home and have done them at the bus stop. NOT on the bus or have the bus driver get OFF the bus to take them.

Very true. They are always late at least the first day and by parents getting on the bus to take pictures, it makes them even later.

We're the very last stop on DC's bus route, and our bus was within a minute of when they were scheduled to be there. They're not *always* late the first day.
