Vent/ People need to learn to think before they talk

So, I haven't been around too much lately

I now have added responsibility at work so its been pretty busy, and I've been exhausted

Last week DH slipped at the train station and hurt himself. He thought he twisted his back and knee and came home. It got progressively worse the next few days...to the point where he couldn't walk I had to buy my 44 year old husband a cane after he had a couple of spills trying to walk. We went to the orthopedist on Monday and they think he herniated a disc in his lower back and tore his meniscus in his knee...he has an MRI on Friday and we are praying he doesn't need surgery The poor guy can barely move

Anyway, my boss was nice enough to let me go early today b/c he knows my DH is alone at home and I am totally stressed out. I had to stop at the grocery store for one thing on the way home.

So, I walk in, and there is a woman standing there...obviously touting some sort of product. She looks at me and says, do you have any children under 21? I say NO, and keep walking...I hear her say, oh, wow! I would definitely think you did!!! I turn and politely smile and say, No, no children unfortunately (hoping this would be hint enough to end this conversation). She says, UNFORTUNATELY?! Why would you say that?!!! You're LUCKY!!!! You can take my 13 year old anyday!!!

I stopped dead in my tracks, and looked her straight in the eye and said, REALLY? Well tell me that again after you spend 7 years and over $100,000 trying to have a child...and then just walked away...tears in my eyes.

Yeah, everyone heard. But you know what? I was glad!!! If it makes ONE FREAKING person think before they say something like that, it was worth it!!!!

I then proceeded to fill my basket up with $25 worth of junk food and came home and binged...

I know she just didn't know better, and I'm sure didn't mean any harm...but it ruined my whole freaking day

Oh Lisa, how awful that must've been. I have tears in my eyes just reading that. It is so true that you don't really know until you've walked in another man's shoes...

I'm so proud of you for speaking your mind though. That took courage! I hope she learned her lesson, as did those around her!

I'm sorry that you had to deal with that.

I have heard similar comments like that many times.

And it is really hard because while I know that people don't realize that what they are saying is hurtful, it does not change the fact that it is still hurts.

I am so upset reading that. I dont care if shes clueless about IF - she deserved to feel ike a complete idiot.

Good for you for speaking up to her! I wish I could be like that! I'm learning though!
Please don't let it ruin your day. She is just totally oblivious.

Oh Lisa. Sorry to hear about your DH..that sounds so painful. Hopefully he won't need surgery. My DH has a torn meniscus and he was in so much pain but is better now and goes to PT. No surgery needed.

As far as people who have diarreah of the mouth..they have no idea of the struggles of IF. It came easy to them..way easier than anything you are going through.

It's ignorance that drives people to ssay stupid things sometimes. I'm sure she had no idea.

That doesn't change how you feel. You had every right after all these years to tear someone a new one. I'm sure she wasn't the only one in the last 7 years to say something stupid about having kids. I know I'm super sensitive about it and I'm only at the beginning.

I hope you have some good junk food and that your DH feels better fast.

It sucks that we have to do this to try to have a child but that child will be the luckiest kid.

ok here's the evil in me: I hope she gets a really bad yeast infection!

i actually had my best friend who knows everything say to me on the phone the other night while her daugher was screaming in the background "Are you sure you want a child?" yes shes joking but come on

I am glad you said what you said to that woman. Good for you! How ignorant of a person she was. What an idiot ! And the fact that she kept on going on and on.

I am so sorry you had to deal with this on top of everything else you have going on. It is such a shame that even in this day and age people are so clueless and can be so hurtful. As rough as it was for you, hopefully this woman will think twice next time and you probably spared many more the same fate!

Just sayin'...if the woman was touting something, she was probably an employee of the store in some way...calling or writing the store manager always makes me feel a bit better afterwards...

Lisa hope your DH feels better I am sorry about that, woman sounds like a jerk, however, I am glad your told her like it is so that she watches herself next time she speaks like that!

Oh God my heart is breaking after I read your post. I know how you feel. If someone gets in my way at the wrong time they had better watch out! It's like walking on egg shells 100% of the time, never knowing when you are going to crack.

sorry you had to deal with that but what you said was AWESOME- so proud of you for going back to her, i love hearing people stand up for themselves if their right!

Now let me apologize to you for the azzhole. It proves to me that people should just shut their pie holes and mind their own business, but we both know that that will NEVER happen.

I am so sorry for what you are dealing with. I know my story is a bit different, but I can't tell you how many people have comments about the fact that my child needs a brother/ sister. Oh no, they say, don't wait and have them far apart!!! I have almost screamed at people for saying things like this! I feel like shouting- thanks jerk! like I don't know that already! And they were a miracle conceived baby!!! Oh yeah, it is so easy to just pop out another! Why didn't I think of that!!! Sorr for ranting- People are dumb!
