VENT people who get tired of their pets...
over the summer, my cousin (she is in her early 20s) came to me asking if I wanted her rabbit- I honestly forgot her reasoning but I remember it not really being a great one, but she is ADHD and loses interest in things quickly. I told her that I was sorry and I wouldnt be able to take the rabbit. (I already have a rabbit, a cat and a turtle) As much as I would love to have another, mine is already trained, gets along with the cat and if i get another pet my husband may run away (hehe). She did end up finding him a home and gave it to a pet store.
Fast forward to a 2 weeks ago when she tells me that she got a kitten.
I was trying to be nice, but I was PO. I kept my mouth shut, mostly because that side of the family in general annoys me and I really didnt want to start a war at a family event, but I really wanted to tell her off.
How dare she get a kitten after getting sick and tired of your rabbit. I am sorry but they are family, how do you just get rid of something for no valid reason. I can understand if you are allergic or it is dangerous, but come on???
vent over.. even though I am still PO about it

Re: VENT people who get tired of their pets...
I know someone like this, except she does it with dogs. The lucky ones get to go live with family members. I don't know where the unlucky ones go.
It's sickening and I can't even talk about it without getting upset. No amount of reasoning, talking, or fighting from me has made a bit of difference.
My only revenge is to never, ever mistreat or neglect my own dog and to give it a better life than the ones she's thrown away like confetti.

I can't imagine losing interest in a pet.... As a kid I used to get attached, even to my goldfish!!
In any case, I hope her fascination with the cat lasts longer than the rabbit!!

I will NEVER understand any reasoning in people giving up their pets...sorry thats JMO. My pets are like my family - they aren't "just a cat" or "just a dog"

I just can't imagine "getting tired" of my pets. From the first second I saw them they were my babies. Period. End of story. Every single day they bring me joy- how can you get tired of that?

Re: VENT people who get tired of their pets...
omg i can't imagine that!!! ugh....i just posted about how it would kill me to give away my dog if she gave us problems with a baby (meaning aggression or trying to hurt the baby)....im worried sick over it and im not even ready to start trying for a baby! i'm thinking of getting a trainer to see if there is anything i can do to help my dog so that we can have a kid....
people are sickening...i dont understand how people can do that to their pets...

Re: VENT people who get tired of their pets...
My cousin got a LARGE dog even though she is away from home most of the day. We all told her not to. After a few months of this dog chewing everything up ( because he was home alone for 12+ hours a day ) she brought him back to North Shore.
I knew it was for the best, even though I felt horrible for him. I went to her house to cry with her and support her because I knew it was for the best and a hard decision.
Then. . . through her TEARS she looks at me and says "well at least now I can get the small puppy that I really wanted in the first place."
I got up and walked out.
I will NEVER think of her the same again and honestly, I will never forgive her.

OMG, I will refrain from saying what I really think...I too don't know if my relationship could ever be the same with someone who thinks like this.
