Right now I’m in NC for the weekend..no masks anywhere. It’s fantastic!! My husband is a performer in a tribute band out of LI and he is waiting for all the clubs to open in NY at full capacity. So far he is still playing upstate but outdoors but they still have there vaccinated and testing rules which is ridiculous for outdoors.
Wow that stinks as bands on the island have been playing with no restrictions, just less crowds.
While I don’t know every state, it seems NY either don’t know they can go without masks or are still choosing not wear them while other places are much more lax. Nothing new though as most other states people are much more relaxed.
NC was always relaxed. I went to a wedding in March and no one wore masks not even the people working. I have another wedding in June and it will be the same situation.
It seems like everyone is just so more relaxed outside of the tri-state area. Not sure if it is the keeping up with the Jones’ thing but I know so many people who have moved away and they are just so more lax and have a better quality of life.
Maybe “they are more relaxed” outside of NY because very few places were hit as hard as NY. So maybe NYers have more of a reason for not being quite so “relaxed”
I meant in general.
I think weather has a lot to do with it too. I know that when I'm faced with 7 months of horrible weather, where even by Memorial Day it's still freezing and wretched, I get super depressed. When I'm somewhere with nicer weather and more sunshine, I'm much more relaxed and in a better mood. It's a known fact that sunlight and Vitamin D work wonders on mood. My friend actually went off her anxiety meds after she moved out of state to a better climate. Seasonal Affective Disorder is a real thing . The Northeast is not good for people who suffer from it
NJ was hit extremely hard and I noticed they are even more relaxed than NY.
I've been in and out of stores all around where I am in NJ and while many have taken down the mandatory mask signs, almost everyone inside the store is still masked. I think maybe more "touristy" areas will be quicker to ditch them but for now, it's feeling like nothing has really changed yet around here. I certainly think it'll be an adjustment for some to unmask despite the mandate being lifted.

Re: Venues in NY can operate at 100% capacity..
Funny as the attacking about people not getting the memo...a woman in a group I am in on fb just said she thought the ban was lifted at airports and they gave her a mask. She figured they were no longer needed. People truly don’t know.

I purposely went over and read the sign in the hotel lobby this weekend It said something to the effect of as of 5/28 masks are no longer required for vaccinated people and unvaccinated people are ENCOURAGED to still wear masks. Not required. Encouraged. I found that odd too

I've seen that as well.at some places. I guess because they can't really check or enforce it they are asking as a courtesy for people to do the right thing.

A few places said masks required and one small restaurant type of place has no signs but everyone was wearing them so followed suit.

Private businesses can set their own rules. Some may choose to continue to enforce masks. Their choice.
