Verdict in...I have carpel tunnel...
in both hands. The right hand is further along but the left is starting to show signs. My neurologist gave me some strength tests and was very happy with the level of strength so he tried to reassure me that he had the utmost confidence that everything would be fine after the pregnancy. He tried to joke that the only thing I might not be able to do is change diapers. I still don't love that my hands are numb but like he said, there is nothing we can do to stop it from happening. He was really good.
Donna - I asked about the shots - he said that ultimately a pregnant woman has two options...
1. Steriod shot in the wrist which he said was okay (he would recommend going to a hand surgeon for it though)
2. Some patch that you put on your wrist. I can't remember the name - begins with a L but he said the absorption is low and it really works to calm the nerves that are shooting like crazy into the hand.

I have a pretty high tolerance for pain - which he is aware of because he's been with me for a few years as a result of my migraines (although they seem to be gone with the pregnancy).
He told me that if I was in pain that he could get me in to see a hand surgeon that he recommends. He was really very compassionate about the discomfort but honestly I don't feel so much pain. My hand is stiff in the morning but by my shower it has relaxed. The only thing is I have the numbness which is uncomfortable but doesn't hurt me.
So I am going to leave it alone for now and he wants me to check in with him in 2 months to see how I am doing.

Re: Verdict in...I have carpel tunnel...
My CT hit me after the pregnancy. It is really bad now but has gotten better by wearing wrist braces at night. I had the surgery scheduled but had to cancel since I was Pregnant.
My OB recommended to hold off on the cortisone shots unless it gets really bad. He doesn't recommend having steroids injected in to you. Yet every dr is different.
I have a great hand surgeon if you want his info.

Yeah - he said this was definitely an option and was perfectly fine for a pregnant woman. He recommended the hand surgeon because it's such a small space in the wrist to begin with and with our being so swollen already - it requires that much more care.
Good Luck!!!
