verizon iphone question
why does everyone feel that most iphone users will leave AT&T just because the iphone is now with verizon?
i really couldn't care less either way, i'm just wondering why is this almost a certainty to so many

It is because Verizon is a better network. I am anxious to see what happens when Verizon gets bogged down with all the iPhone traffic.

Re: verizon iphone question
i didnt hear that, but i think you would need to buy a brand new iphone to switch plans. verizon and at&t's phones dont have the same technology

Re: verizon iphone question
Verizon is known for better voice service plain and simple..
when the iphone 4 came out, so many people jumped ship and went with AT&T that it made the service s()ck to a certain extent.. it's gotten MUCH better.. almost back to what I had in the beginning (I've been with them for 15 years!)..

Re: verizon iphone question
But I thought Verizon has a different network which prohibits doing 2 things at once (phone and email at the same time).
Doesn't quite matter to me. I am a Verizon customer and pretty content with m Blackberry.

Correct, Verizon is on CDMA and AT&T runs on GSM. With Verizon you won't be able to use voice and data at the same time.

Re: verizon iphone question
DH & I have had AT&T for years & years, even when it was Cingular. We have been on a family share plan for as long as I can remember. We do have the IPhone & honestly as long as they keep making them, we will continue to upgrade. We absolutely love the phone. As for the service: DH & I are the only people who have service in our basement apartment. We are also the only people who have service at my parents house Upstate, NY (which is in a no coverage area).
The sole reason DH & I would consider leaving AT&T was if Verizon offers us a great deal on wireless service since we already have FIOS. But then again they also have to offer us money back for breaking our contract with AT&T.

It is because Verizon is a better network. I am anxious to see what happens when Verizon gets bogged down with all the iPhone traffic.
Verizon may have more coverage areas, however I don't think Verizon has the better data network.
The AT&T HSPA+ data network blows Verizon away. My iphone4's data speeds were almost 5x faster than my dad's Droid X. FIVE times faster. The Verizon iphone will probably be the same as the Droid.
And then there is the whole limitation of not being able to talk and use the internet (email, google maps, web, etc.) with Verizon. Huge flaw.
What good is being a mobile hotspot if you will knock everyone off when a call comes in? Or even worse have that call go right to voicemail and miss it while being on the data.
I can turn your AT&T iPhone into a mobile hotspot with the right software anyways. And I can take calls at the same time!
Verizon is way overrated, and way overpriced. Wait till they see all those new iphones on their network. I am predicting BIG problems and slow service for them.

Re: verizon iphone question
Let me also add that Verizon iPhone will always be the redheaded step-child to AT&T. Their products will probably lag 6-8 months to AT&T.
So when AT&T rolls out the iPhone 5 in July, you won't see that model on Verizon until after the New Year in 2012. Verizon will probably always be behind (like they always are with cellphone technology).

ITA - Only AT&T gets service in certain parts of my building, so when the phones go down I don't have to worry about not being in certain spots in order to be able to communicate with corporate.

MyWi is one. But you need a jailbroken iphone to do it. I have it on my phone and it works great.
When I get the next generation iPad in May, I will be able to just get the Wi-Fi only version of it as I will run MyWi on my iPhone4 and be good to go. I'll save myself $30 bucks a month (or whatever the data plan for the iPad costs) since I will always have my iPhone with me when I have the iPad.
Also if you don't get service in your house for AT&T, get an AT&T MicroCell. I complained enough to customer service about dropped calls... I got them to send me a MicroCell ($149 bucks) for free.
ETA: And I got the free microcell last year when Verizon wasn't a competitor. I think AT&T will be a lot quicker to issue free MicroCells now that people can switch to Verizon. You just need to call, complain, and get the right rep. Ask them to issue you a $150 statement credit and you can go buy the MicroCell yourself.

Mine is jailbroken already.. I saw MyWi and wasn't sure if it was a good one.. Read stuff on others...
Thanks so much.. Do you think the microcell works well?

The people that never had an iphone might not realize how huge this is that you can't use voice and data at the same time. One of the best things about an iphone is being able to put the caller on speaker and then look up directions, check for an email, etc.

The MicroCell has it's own issues particularly with the iPhone 4 as I occasionally drop calls with it or hear some static, but where i live I get VERY bad service inside my house. So I am better off with it than without and it was free so I am not complaining about a free device.
I'd rather get the call and deal with possible issues than miss the call completely and have it go right to voicemail with no rings.
MyWi is probably the best one with the best features, but it's also the most expensive to purchase (I think $20 or $30 bucks). There are other cheaper versions out there. I bought MyWi when it was the only option at the time.

I will look into it.. 20-30 bucks isn't that bad when you think of the long term savings!
