I do not have a data plan but when our contract is up with Verizon we are switching to boost mobile, getting better phones, and unlimited everything $90 a month for both of us. We are getting ripped off right now for basic phones with no email or web or anything
Same here- only my contract isnt up for a few years

And so Sprint remains the only carrier to offer truly unlimited data on all smartphones!
T-Mobile does as well
True, but they lower the speed of your data once you have used a certain amount. Hence the reason I called it the only "truly" unlimited data. If a company puts limits on it, even for speed, I don't consider it really unlimited.

You really need to look at what you really use consider the amount of WiFi that is available when you someplace (work, home, mall, etc...)
I think of myself as a decent user and i come no where near typical rates cause of wifi use.

Re: Verizon to end unlimited data for upgraders
I read here that this applies to people who are upgrading from 3G to 4G LTE.
"Customers wanting to upgrade phones from their current 3G data plan to use 4G LTE will be required to sign on to Verizon's new data-share plan to be introduced this summer"
"A lot of our 3G base is unlimited. As they start to migrate into 4G, they will have to … go into the data-share plan. And that is beneficial for us."

Interesting. When DH and I upgraded to our Droid 4s in February, that was an upgrade from 3G to 4G, and our plan stayed the same. I guess we will just have to see what the deal is when it's time for us to upgrade in 2014.

You guys should look at your data usage before you decide to leave Verizon Wireless because of this change. Most people don't use anywhere near the amount of data that they're allotted on a share plan.
Plus, my DH works for VZW and he needs his job!

Good thing I just upgraded a few months ago. I still have well over a year until my next one. So screw you Verizon! I'm going to use so much data, you won't even know what hit ya!
I might do this. My 2 years is up in dec, but I thought I couldn't upgrade until August?

Re: Verizon to end unlimited data for upgraders
This sucks. Aside from data plan, I'm on an old Verizon plan that hasn't existed for 3 years. Several times they have tried to get me to switch but I've refused everytime.
Ugh, after talking to DH I realize how much data I use. Work has no wifi so I'm on 3G all day on pandora and I heart radio. SUCKS!

Re: Verizon to end unlimited data for upgraders
This sucks and is NOT FAIR that VZ will do this to people that lave been loyal to them all along VZ will now lose many. So what was the point of being 'grandfarthered' to have it taken away? I am def going to look at options now! here is a petition to try to stop VZ
Stop VZ

Actually this is true... I thought I use so much data and I actually haven't even used 1GB in the past 3 months!

Re: Verizon to end unlimited data for upgraders
Okay from Verizon.....
"Customers will not be automatically moved to new shared data plans. If a 3G or 4G smartphone customer is on an unlimited plan now and they do not want to change their plan, they will not have to do so.
When we introduce our new shared data plans, Unlimited Data will no longer be available to customers when purchasing handsets at discounted pricing.
Customers who purchase phones at full retail price and are on an unlimited smartphone data plan will be able to keep that plan.
The same pricing and policies will be applied to all 3G and 4GLTE smartphones"

So we just have to purchase the phone at retail price- for like $400 ? Wonderful....

Depending on the phone it could be way more than that.

big freakin' whoop. the full purchase price for a smart phone is ridiculously expensive (considering they're replaced every two years)
to give you an idea...
the full purchase price of an iPhone ranges from: $549 - $749
Blackberry: $299-$509
Droid: $649 - $449
