Verizon Wireless users, I have a question??

This may seem like a very silly question but I have never done this before so just wanted to make sure that i can do this.

We have Verizon but have a good 1 1/2 years before we qualify for a phone upgrade and we both really want new phones.

So if we went to a store and bought a new Verizon phone we can then take it to Verizon and they will transfer all of our information to the new phone, right?? Does Verizon charge to do this, if so how much? We can keep our phone number, same plan, we are just changing phones.

I feel like this is a stupid question but before we spend the money I just want to double check we can transfer our phones. We dont want to buy the phones at the Verizon store.

Also how do you feel about the Pearl or the Curve? What would you chose.

TIA!! I appreciate your help in this.

Where would you buy the phones? No sure I understand? Anywhere you buy them ( except for like Ebay) , is the same as buying at a verizon store. They activate the phones for you. you have to be an authorized Verizon dealer to sell a Verizon phone...hence the above.

Keep in mind, the Verizon stores and places like BJS/Costco and best buy will have the best prices on phones.

You can ask them to transfer things like your phone numbers, pics etc on SOME phones. some phones they cant do that on.

Your plan and numbers all stay the same.

We decided not to do the Blackberry b/c of the data charges of $30 a month but I heard the curve is very good.

We were looking on Ebay. That is why I was asking. I dont have pics or anything that need to be transferred I guess I just would need the phone activated.

Also with the Blackberry there is an extra $30 a month charge that would be added to our original plan?

Thanks for the information this helping.

Re: Verizon Wireless users, I have a question??

you can switch phones with no penalty. DH did this a couple of times - he got a blackberry, then switched back to his old phone. he also bought the blackberry off ebay. there was no fee (except the upgrade to the blackberry plan) and they did not extend his contract.

you can actually just have them switch it over the phone, or online, but to transfer your contacts you'd have to go into a store.

with bb's, you have to pay for data service in addition to the voice service. check out the vzw site for rate info.

Re: Verizon Wireless users, I have a question??

Ok, this is good. I really dont want to go with a blackberry so hoping I can talk DH out of it because I really dont want our bill to change.

i just want a newer phone and better then the one I am using. It has been very problematic the last few months.

Does your recpetion have anything to do with your phone? I get dropped calls all the time with out current phone. If we had a better quality phone does that make a difference?

Sorry about all the questions. Chat Icon

Re: Verizon Wireless users, I have a question??

yes, sometimes a change of phone will give you better service.

question though-- when was the last time you updated your roaming? dial *228 send, select update roaming option (I think its option 1, but can't remember). it's a free call. you should update your roaming at a bare minimum before you go out of town, and really once a month. when you do that, the phone automatically gets reprogrammed to look for the new towers in your area. that could improve your signal dramatically.

also, what is your battery life like? is your phone in a case? has it ever had water/moisture damage? all of that can affect your phone and how it works.

eta to make what i wrote more clear.

Re: Verizon Wireless users, I have a question??

Our battery is horrible and has been since about month 2 of getting the phone. We have had the battery changed. I can fully charge my phone and by the end of the day it is dead. and I only talked on the phone once or twice very few mins.

I will do the roaming update. Thanks for that information as I did not know that.

No case for me but yes for DH. Neither phones have had water/moisture damage. I dont even recall ever dropping it. I think it is a lemon. lol

I would contact Verizon & let them know that you are interested in renewing the contract for 2 more years & would they let you have your upgrades now. I did this 2 years ago they let me upgrade early. Try that first.

Do it over the phone not in the store. If the first person you talk to won't make it happen try calling back. Sometimes you just have to find the right customer service person.

Before buying a new phone, I would go back to the Verizon store and tell them how many problems you are having with the phone and battery. They'll give you a new one for free. My DH has done this before and they always replaced the phone for him.
