I would ask "where are you having this" and "how many people were invited" if you need that kind of money !! How many BM's are there???? Please tell me the $335 includes your part of the "gift" also. That is just an insane amount for money - and it doesn't even cover the basics!!!
Actually...I was going to throw that question back to you all.... PLEASE tell me if I give 150 that will include my gift? I mean for real if I am supposed to give the 150 then buy her the same amt she bought me I am up sh#ts creek again. P.S. I wrote her I would contribute 150...but still havent heard anything back.

Thanks for the responses. I actually thought I would hear that I am a bridesmaid and have to contribute 335. I was only planning on giving 300 to the wedding. Her sister went shower shopping for everything with no input and put payments on things and wants the $. thats just plain rude!

Honestly, I feel like we need new BP "rules" Chipping in for the shower is the norm, but showers being held at 40.00 a plate venues is totally new and common now.
BP paying for dresses: Something is wrong when my most expensive gowns in my closet are bridemaids dresses...paying for your own bridesmaid dress is fine, but the prices have gotten crazy. Then shoes, alerations and up-dos!!
Bach parties...this is getting out of hand completely. What happened to going to a bar and buying the first round of shots??? Now I have to contribute to a party bus fee and hotel room??
Oh yeah and on top of everything else, I love when people let me know the price per plate at the wedding. Sorry if my 250.00 "gift" is not covering my cold chicken...
Vent over...do what you can, it is all out of hand. I hope my bridal party days are over.
i 100% agree! when i got married, i wanted a shower in my moms backyard, no bachelorette party (we went to a friend's house at the jersey shore for the wknd and BBQd) and I didnt ask anyone to pay for an updo or makeup (those who wanted to did but it was their choice!)
I also agree! My shower was in my backyard. Put together by my MOH & my daughter (BM) while I was away for a weekend. I didn't ask anyone to pay for certain hairstyle ( I paid to have MOH hair done how she wanted & makeup for my MOH & daughter). Because I knew $$$$ was very tight for my MOH I also paid for her dress for her. She had said she would pay me back but I wasn't worried about it.

ok as for the hair - yes i did ask my bridesmaids to use the hair person i brought in only because of the theme of the wedding and i wanted period hair - but to make it up i paid for everyone's 3 day stays and the flower girls dresses. i thought that was fair.
my shower only cost the girls $50 each - and i thought that was alot.
i think sometimes people go overboard. talk to the bride tell her you didnt realize that so much expense was going to be involved - and if you feel you need to bow out - noone expects to spend a thousand dollars to be in a wedding - that is just crazy
