Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I had forgot i even had the monitor. Last night i had to put DS to bed w/ a rolled up receiving blanket under his side bc im working on him sleeping on this left side so his head doesnt flatten
Anyway, i was nervous about the blanket and my friend was like "dont you have a monitor". DUHHHH...yeah. So i set it up and DS was fine.
So now im using it again tonite and im obsessed w. it now. And i think it was better when i didnt know what he was doing in there bc now i cant stop staring at it

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I love the video monitor, I think it made me less crazy to be able to see him and know he was still breathing.
He is a year now and sometimes I still sit and watch him sleep, it is very calming

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I got the Summer video monitor for my shower, but thought it stunk, so I returned it and never replaced it with anything.

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
at first it was definitely my worst enemy, but only because DH was obsessed with checking it constantly! The bassinet was on my side of the bed (and I could see DS while lying in the bed) and DH put the camera on the nightstand so he could also see DS. All night I would hear him hitting the button to turn on the screen and he would ask me "is he ok" it drove me nuts! Now that DS is in his crib, the monitor has been great, although you do hear every little peep out of them. I honestly don't check it all night unless I hear him cough or sneeze. However, DH is still obsessed with it. Ugh I dunno...I guess it's more the enemy

Best Friend! Yes, I look at it all the time, but without it I would be in his room all the time checking him. I'm a nervous person!! I think it is one of the best inventions ever.

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
love it but I didnt get it until Ds was 1 and I didnt miss it at all!
At that point for the first time we were having sleep issues so I used it while doing CIO.
Now at 2 yo, I use it to make sure he is actually going to sleep and not playing when I leave the room. Or if he is fussing I talk to him through the door and can watch to see if he settles in because me going into the room just messes up bedtime routine.

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
Michele. I was obsessed with it too and I seriously had to make DH keep it on his side of the bed so that I would stop waking up in a panic and checking on her. I was getting no sleep!
Ever since, it is on his side of the bed and I am able to relax.
Before we go to sleep I carry it around and def click that button all the time just to see her....but I couldnt live without it.

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I think we have all been there. It definitely takes getting used to. I used to wake up many times during the night and look at DS in the monitor. But now I don't. It was a lifesaver in the beginning because otherwise I would have been in his room and getting him every 5 minutes. Also, sometimes I would have gotten him too early, sometimes he just makes noise and rolls over but isn't waking up. Hang in there!

I love it. I love watching DS sleep in his crib. I love that I can see so clearly, I can make sure he is breathing without going in to his room. It makes sleeping in different rooms much easier.
Plus it's just so much fun to watch some of the things he does when he is fighting sleep. DH and I say any parent who doesn't have one is missing out!

Amen! Have one for each kid and couldn't survive without it. I have a colonial and my kids nap on my 2nd floor so it's great to not have to run up and down checking in on them....

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
Love it!! After I put DS to sleep I feel better that I can enjoy some time with DH b/c I know DS is fine... just see him in the monitor. I don't have to keep running upstairs to check on him. He'll fuss a bit and put himself right back to sleep.

Best friend, DS sleeps upstairs and we can't hear him from our room. I love that I can peek in on him during the night and actually see him

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I have mixed feelings about it. When I had DS I didn't want the video monitor and only registered for the audio one. We were just fine with it and had even stopped using the monitor all together when DS had a febrile seizure at 18 months. We went right out and bought a video monitor. It has since broke, but I still went and bought a new one for this baby. I try not to get obsessed with looking at it, I just peek over periodically.

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I love the video monitor, especially because we have a 2 story house with the bedrooms upstairs and our family room downstairs (where we spend 90% of our time). So it was convenient to not have to run up and down the stairs everytime I heard the baby making noise.
Once we're in bed, I usually lower the volume so I don't hear every single sound she makes.

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
i love it but only use it to do a quick check. i don't use the volume at all.
i'm a very laid back parent. i only use it to kind of say goodnight without going in and to see why they're crying. it gets turned off as soon as i go to bed.

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
Definately turned out to be my best friend! Without it, I would have been running to DD's room at every little peep she made NEVER letting her sleep.
With the video monitor, I was able to see if she really was in distress and needed one of us, or just fussing while asleep.
I intend to use it until she is 30!
