Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I love it also. It is a crappy monitor as far as static and after about 6 months it would not work at all if it wasn't plugged in, but the video feature can't be beat

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I would say neither.
I had the audio one for my older DD. The thing was so sensitive, we could hear her breathe, basically. Our two are 20 mos. apart, so we bought a 2nd audio. We were happy. Then at 20 mos. old, DD#2 had an unexplained seizure and DH RAN right out and bought an video monitor after she was released from the hospital. Let me tell you, maybe a month we were super-vigilant--and then really never watched it. Really, we only use it to have a laugh in the morning when she wakes up and is playing in there (ask me why we are still using it when she'll be THREE in May? )
DH and I aren't paranoid types, so I don't feel it's necessary at all. Also, I don't think I know one person in real life who has one...

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
Best friend - I was obsessed with it in the beginning - even using it when he was in the bassinet right next to my bed - LOL!
now it's to the point where I leave the volume up, but the video off - if I hear him stirring, I can click the video on to see if he's just shifting in his sleep or if he really needs me. It's saved me many a trip to his room.

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
At 2yo we still use the monitor every night. It helped out tremendously this weekend when DD got a stomach virus. My DH was able to see her and know she was getting sick and ran in to get her.
I do sometimes get obsessed because she moves around a lot and we just transitioned her to a toddler bed so I'll sit and make sure she's not getting out of bed.
But overall I LOVE having it.

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
For me- honestly - worst enemy. I too became GLUED to it and was a slave to the monitor! Now while DD naps, I keep it off. I check to make sure she fell asleep and then leave it off or I efel like a nut. I can hear her when she wakes up, so it has made me feel better leaving it off. I do leave it on at night though - she never wakes up
But overall - I could not live without it. I love that I can check on her without having to go in to her room.

I love the video monitor, I think it made me less crazy to be able to see him and know he was still breathing.
He is a year now and sometimes I still sit and watch him sleep, it is very calming

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I LOVE it! I would say that is the one baby gadget I use the most. I have one for each child. DD is 3 and I STILL use it! I have the SUmmer Handheld and it broke a few times but I called and they replaced them all for free except for the last time because the monitor was 2 years old. BUT they do offer you a 50% discount if your warranty is up!!
Anyhow back to the question. We watch TV downstairs at night and can't hear them. THey are both "active" sleepers and make lots of noise and toss and turn. I would be peeking in their rooms all night and waking them if I didn't have that thiing!!! I will use it until they leave for college!

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I love mine. It helps me to see when he is just fussing so I don't run in there right away...if I ran in there, that's it -he'd be up for hours. Sometimes he just fusses and goes back to sleep. I also like to pop it on during the night so I can see where he's at...like the other night when he was sleeping on his belly for the first time and I

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
I love our video monitor. We checked it often the first few days we used it, but then we got a little more comfortable with DS not being with us. I can't imagine not having one.

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
Funny you should ask, bc we never had a video monitor (had the regular one) and never really missed it, or thought I needed to get one, BUT now that DD is older (2) I almost feel like getting one, bc she's been so difficult lately, she's been giving us a really hard time falling asleep and waking up in the middle of the night crying, or crying in her sleep. and then every time I go in to check on her she really wakes up and wants to come out of her crib. So I feel like if I had a video monitor I wouldn't have to go in her room to check. Plus now that we will be transitioning to a toddler bed this summer I will be even more worried, so I think a video monitor could come in handy (?) . Yesterday I told DH that maybe we should get one and his exact words " umm , who buys a baby video monitor when a child is 2? "

Re: Video monitor- best friend or worst enemy??
Couldn't live without it but it drives me crazy at the same time. DD room is right next to mine it's not as if I wouldn't hear her if she were crying but she is moving all over right now I want to see where she is.
