Vomiting during CIO -- anyone's toddler do this on cue?
I'm having SOO much trouble with my 19mo DS.
He's stubborn and if he wants another story/song/drink after I put him in his crib at bedtime, he cries inconsolably until I pick him up again or remove him from the room. Then he smiles and giggles as if nothing's wrong at all.
I've let him CIO three times in the past few months and EVERY time I do that, he cries so hard that he vomits all over the toys in his room. Not on himself, not on his bedding, but on the toys next to his crib and towards his 3yo brother's bed. Again -- doesn't even describe it!!
How do I handle this? I don't want him to think he's in control, but he really IS in control.
Any advice would be great - tonight I broke down and put him in the car until he fell asleep -- not a good approach. TIA.

My DS used to do this..
You have to stick to your guns.
Go in, make no eye contact, take him out, clean him and the mess up and then put him right back in and to bed..
THAT'S IT..
If he is vomiting on toys or things nearby, then remove them until he realizes that mommy is not going to be played around with.. kwim? GL!

Glad and sad that this has happened to someone else. My FIL was giggling about it last night saying that we should call Hollywood to see if any horror flicks want a kid that can puke on cue...I am at my wit's end and your post made me feel better. It's going to be a rough few nights but I gotta take care of this before we head upstate for the summer to stay with my folks (my mom isn't going to be able to let me have DS CIO -- how that woman had three kids is beyond me. ) thank you!

No real advice. You are not alone. My second ds likes to throw up to. Except he always gets the crib and himself. He has one the battle at the moment. We need to revisit soon.
Let me know how it goes.

Re: Vomiting during CIO -- anyone's toddler do this on cue?
We went through this when DS was 14 months.
We had originally used CIO when he was 6 months old and he was fine. Then at 14 months he had been sick and was teething and his sleeping got all out of whack again. We started CIO again and he threw up in his crib. The first time it happened, we cleaned him up and let him fall asleep on us again. Then a week later I tried it again and he did the same thing.
I talked to my ped who told me if he wasn't hungry, dirty, wet, sick, he should be able to go to sleep by himself. The next time we did CIO again, he threw up again, we cleaned him up and put him back in bed where he screamed for a half hour before finally going to sleep again. He never did it again.
It's amazing how manipulative they are at such a young age. THey really know how to pull your heart strings.
But I'm so glad we did it to get him sleeping again. Hardest thing I ever did in my life, but it was well worth it!
Good luck!
ETA: I would be proactive about it. Take all the toys away, put some towels down on the floor so that the clean up will be quick and easy. Get him back in bed and leave. He will get the message very quickly.

Great advice - I don't know why that didn't occur to me!! That would make clean-up so much easier!
