maybe at your buddy the squirrel's house?  they are about the same size, right?

I am not even afraid of spiders and that made my skin crawl...
Wolf spiders are members of the family Lycosidae, from the Greek word "?????" meaning "wolf". They are robust and agile hunters, and have good eyesight. They live mostly solitary lives and hunt alone. Some are opportunistic wanderer hunters, pouncing upon prey as they find it or chasing it over short distances. Others lie in wait for passing prey, often from or near the mouth of a burrow.

Holy Sh-it...I have never in my life seen a spider that large except for in a store or a zoo. I shivered when I saw the picture...and yours too Racheeee.

OMFG YES it's dead.
I was rounding the corner to go down to the playroom when my eyes locked onto it. Before I could scream, DH SHOUTED, "Don't come down here!!!!"
I whispered, "Please tell me I am not seeing that! Is that a fecking SPIDER <stage whisper>?!"
To which he replied, "Um, I think it's a dog..."
He sprayed it with something toxic and it RAN at DH to which he actually SHRIEKED. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Thankfully, after a long battle, DH prevailed.
I HAD to get a pic to compare it to other pics- I NEEDED to know what it is. It's a Wolf Spider. We've had them before, but NONE this size.
USUALLY DH just picks up the spiders I scream about and put them in the garden, however we were afraid this one might terrorize the neighborhood.
ETA: This pic still doesn't do it justice as it's soaked with bug killer. When it was "fuzzy" it was EASILY 4 inches around.
Im sorry but the spider running at your DH and him shrieking visual is causing me to laugh uncontrollably

When I was a kid my brother and I saw one of these in his bedroom over the door, we were so scared, we jumped out his window. We were afraid to walk under it. My mom finally killed it with an umbrella!!!

We have those in AZ. We killed 7, yes 7 of those f'ers in my house in one night. Yea, going to bed that night wasn't easy. Needless to say the exterminator came the next day and sprayed the crap out of the house. Ugh.

Nah- we get those too. I've always called them "Cricket Spiders" (those effers can JUMP).
This monster put all the cricket spiders to SHAME.
Wanted to add- my DH put 'Zilla outside in the grass. I showed it to my next door neighbor (along with the pic) who is just as terrified as I am of spiders. She insisted on squishing the dead body "just to make sure".

I used to live somewhere where we had wolf spiders , but my little brother ( the spider masher ) would take a mallot (sp?) and mash them
