Walking Dogs???
Is there anyone that DOESN'T have a fenced in backyard that has a dog?
How do you feel about walking your doggy when it has to go to the bathroom??

Re: Walking Dogs???
I don't have a fenced in yard, we live in an apartment. i don't mind walking Bella in the nice weather, but I hate it when it is cold and/or raining. But we have to do it. My DH walks her in the morning, and then I usually take her out for a really quick pee trip before I leave for work. Then I get home first so I take he on another long work in the afternoon. Then she really doesn't need to go out again until bed time, and DH usually does that walk. I can't wait until we buy a house, it will be so nice in the winter to just open the door and let her out!!

Our first apartment did not have a fence, and you walk them...not sure what you mean by "feel about walking" them...?

I just mean you can't just get up and let your dog out, you have to get up and put your jacket on (if needed) or grab an umbrella...etc
People were just making a big deal and saying "Oh it's such a pain, you have to stop what you are doing and if it's cold out you have freeze your butt off".
Which is true...but it's a sacrifice you have to make when you don't have a fenced yard.

I don't have a fenced in yard, but our dogs are trained to stay in the yard...they don't leave the property unless we let them...our neighbors were impressed b/c they thought we had an invisible fence...felt so good saying, NOPE!

Re: Walking Dogs???
We walk our dog usually four times a day. It's so not a big deal, I usually throw on sneakers and a jacket with whatever I'm wearing (pajamas) and out I go.

Just like the feedings & playtime it becomes part of your daily routine. I'll admit it was no fun in the rain, but even though I let them out in the backyard now I still go out with them out of habit.

Re: Walking Dogs???
We had no fence when we first moved here and when we were in the apartment. I got used to walking my dog. It was easy if I left the right jacket and shoes right near his leash for when I got up in the morning. Now we have a fence, but I still like to try to walk him. I don't do it every day anymore but I wish I could get back into that routine.

Re: Walking Dogs???
We have a very rambuctious Boston Terrier puppy and a very large yard with no fence. It's not a good combo!! Our baby is leash walked at least 7 times a day (yes, I spoil him) and I don't mind the rain, the ice (in the winter), the fog, etc. one bit...it's a small "price" to pay for him being happy!

We have to do it...otherwise she will never sleep She is a crazy beast and no matter what the weather we have to take her out, so snow and cold don't matter, we must walk.

Re: Walking Dogs???
We have a fenced yard but it is not only for when we don't want to walk the dog - it is for her safety and also for her to run around in and get some exercise!

Re: Walking Dogs???
We have a fenced in yard - but the last couple of weeks Molly will ONLY go to the bathroom when we take her on walks. I think it's from when we were on vacation in Savannah and she was constantly on the leash going to the bathroom.
It is getting to be a huge PIA because that's the reason we fenced in the yard to make our lives easier.
Bottom line though - as long as she goes to the bathroom outside I don't really care where it is....I dream about a Wee Wee Pad free house!

Re: Walking Dogs???
I live in an apartment complex, so I walk Gus all the time, and then we go and play off leash in the field accross the street.....the thing is, he doesn't love being outside when it's freezing cold, or pouring rain either-so we run out together as fast as we can, he does his thing, and then we dash back inside as fast as we can....it's really no big deal.

Re: Walking Dogs???
DH and I have to walk Scruffy all of the time. We don't mind it. We have been a lot more active because of it, and it's no big deal. It's annoying in the rain or snow, but he's gotten good at going quick and running back in because Scruffy hates getting wet!! He cracks me up!

Re: Walking Dogs???
we have a yard that is not fenced in, and we walk Boogie often throughout the day, especially since I am not back to work yet-he loves it, it tires him out-and he is great the rest of the day! It is enjoyable for the both of us...in bad weather we put wee wee pads/newspaper in the garage and he goes there- weird, but he WILL NOT use them in the house-he eats it and tears at them---BUT if it is in the garage he goes...so in rain/snow whatever or late at night when DH is away on business and I am alone,he goes in the garage on the pads/paper.

Re: Walking Dogs???
DW (Mushpot) forgot to mention we have a fenced yard but he perfers to walk. I don't mind as it became a routine now. Keeps both him and me active which in the backyard, they tend to do the deed, then just wait while when walking, he seems to want to do more cause your with him (imo)
