Walking dogs debate
I am wondering how everyone else feels about this... Me and my DH disagree about it all the time.
I feel that if I am walking my dog and pick up the poo that if I he goes somewhere on someone property (I don't do it directly on their front lawn) but on the side of someones house...that as long as I pick it up it is OK.
My DH disagrees with me totally he feels that the dog should be going in the street or the grass on the other side of a sidewalk. The only problem with this is where we live there aren't any side walks.. so everyone's lawn comes out to the street.
My dog gets way too excited when we go walking.. so sometimes he can't control where he goes and will just pull me to some grass to go. So I feel that I am picking it up and that should be good enough.
What do you guys think?

Re: Walking dogs debate
Where I live there is no sidewalks either. If my dog went in FRONT of someone's house, meaning the boarder of the lawn and street that is one thing, but of course not in the middle of their lawn. You can't help that, especially that there are no sidewalks.
Of course, always pick it up also. Should not be an issue.

We don't have sidewalks either and Misty will NOT poop on the street. So she goes on the lawns (and it's the front lawn) and I pick it up...I make sure to get it all. I don't see the issue with it at all...if you didn't pick it up, I could see there being a problem. As long as you scoop, there should be no issue.

I totally agree with you. But I guess others see it another way. So now I am afraid people are going to come out screaming at me even though I always pick it all up.

We don't have sidewalks either. We don't walk him so often, but when we do, he poops on the street in front of the same house all the time! I feel a little funny about it, but I clean up after him so it's ok.

Katie will not poop in the street, always on someones lawn and I always carry the bags with me to clean up. I don't think it should be a problem.

Daisy goes where she wants to go within 4 feet of the leash to my hand - so not very far, and I always pick it up.
I say - as long as you pick it up, then you're being respectful.

my hubbie will drag the dog all the way home even if she is in the midst of squatting.... I disagree with him on this....I think as long as you pick it up and it's not in the middle of someone's lawn it's ok

Re: Walking dogs debate
I dont feel its right that the dog goes on the persons property. On the grass next to side walk is okay but not the actual front lawn. That would ruin the person lawn and some people spend alot of money to make sure there lawn is well taken care of.
i also hate when people do not pick up after their dog, there are sooo many people in my neighborhood that leave the mess behind.. soo gross.

But what if there is no sidewalk...in my neighborhood it's street -curb - lawn...there's nowhere else for the dog to go.

The street. Its not like the dogs butt is touching the ground. I wouldnt want someones dog doing its business on my lawn.. thats just me i guess.

Re: Walking dogs debate
On a street where there are no sidewalks, the very edge of people's lawns is fine as long as you pick it up. There is only one person in my (huge) neighborhood that thinks otherwise, but that person also thinks that the horse size poops in the middle of her lawn come from my dachshund and not her huge mule of a dog that runs out the front door unleashed (not bashing big dogs. He is cute. His owner is not. He wants to run away!!!)

ITA with this. if i lived in an area where my lawn went directly to the street i would not want a dog going on my lawn - even just WALKING there, let along going to the bathroom.
if your dog won't go in the street that's a training issue, IMO.
if you're not paying the taxes on my property that i pay to maintain, then keep your dog off my lawn.
even if you say you "get it all," urine kills grass - and i don't see people picking that up.

Without a sidewalk, dogs AND people belong in the street, not someone's grass/property. I never walk or allow my dogs on anyone's grass. That's just being respectul.
I don't want people or dogs on my lawn.

i wouldn't give a crap (pardon the pun lol) how many dogs pooped on our lawn - even in the middle of it lol - whatever - as long as the owner picks it up - it doesn't make a difference.

Re: Walking dogs debate
I think if you pick it up you are doing more then most...then again we always walk our dog in the dog walking area. If I had my own home I probably wouldnt want someone dog going on my lawn regardless of where.
BUT my FIL talks about this all the time, a dogs urine will cause your grass to turn brown

that's a good point... i didn't think about that - i was only thinking poop at first - and for us, we don't care who goes on our lawn b/c as long as they pick it up it's like it never happened -- and with urine, we give char those pills to keep the grass from turning - but i'm sure most people don't do that so yeah it could stain and that would suuuck.

they are called grass savers - MIL bought them at petco and suggested we use them - ever since then we have been giving them to her and they work great - no stains at all you just need to put one in her food each day - we crush it or else she knows lol and spits it out haha.

Re: Walking dogs debate
Actually, my dog is a leg lifter and will pee against the curb when we walk him, so he is not peeing on the lawn. If not there, he will lift his leg against a lamp post and he must not be the only one because the grass is never really good right around lamp posts. We also just let him into our fenced yard, so not every trip to the bathroom involves the possibility of going on someone's lawn. We pick up his poop but I am sure that no matter what, there is some poop residue left. Wouldn't someone be more likely to step in it on the road than on the edge of a lawn? Besides, poop is a fertilizer (half joking, I never leave his poop, even in our yard). BTW, I prefer the bags that are rolled and you can hang the roll from the leash. I tried all types of poop bags in the beginning, even ones with little built in scoops.

Re: Walking dogs debate
I do NOT allow Cooper on other people's lawns... I don't want to get an angry home owner running out the door screaming at us. There is an empty lot at the beginning of our walking route that no one owns so I will take him there to do his business, clean it up, and move on.
