sorry.. this is JMHO, But.. if you're going to pay well over a Half a million dollars for something, it shouldn't look like the 70s threw up all over the floors and walls. Again, JMHO. Chat Icon

ok well there are people that would pay that money for the house -

Believe me. You are paying more for the area, and the schools not for the house

I'm sure there probably is someone out there that would pay alot for a house- it doesn't mean that its worth that amount. Wantagh is a decent area... but "paying for the area"? thats Way too high for that house in that area.

all i'm saying is--- you posted it as if it were a 'good' deal.... IMO... it's not even a decent deal, and i think its ballsy to suggest that amount when the walls and floors look like my grandmother old couch. Chat Icon

This house is beautifully maintained and the property is just gorgeous! Yes, it's outdated, but nothing some paint and some new carpet couldn't fix in the interim. Wish it was in my price range. Chat Icon

Geez! No need to jump on someone for posting a house you don't like!!

I personally don't see all that much wrong with the house - sure it needs some updating....but no matter what house you buy - it's going to require some work!

i honestly don't see how people posting their opinions (on a house that doesnt even belong to the OP) is considered "jumping down his throat" Chat Icon This is the same conversation that takes place almost everyday here Re: the cost Vs. quality (or lack thereof) in the market right now. i can't fathom that Scott would be upset b/c people didnt like a random house from some MLS listing. I think it is a nice home. Sure it needs work, like any other home you buy on LI.
I especially like the 3 car garage!

90% of the houses I see on MLSLI are so outdated & the prices are ridiculous.
Wantagh is nice, but its not over the top. IMO any house in a "normal" area for over 500k should be updated within the last 10 years.
Not to mention the taxes, I know people with nearly 100 yr old homes on 40 X 90 paying 12k. Everyone knows Nassau has only seen the beginning of their taxes going up, things still aren't right after years of corrupt government.
Sorry thats not for me, but if someone had nearly 600k for the house & another 150k to update it & made them happy that's great. However that person would have to assume the house was worth almost 800k at that point. I just don't see it.
I do love looking at the links though so keep 'em comingChat Icon

Re: Wantagh

I like the house - it has great bones. If it's in the Woods, they'll get over $500K for it - not sure they'll get anything close to asking, but IMO it's a great house for the area (if it's the Woods). It has a lot of great features. That spiral staircase and huge fireplace are gorgeous (not sure about the paneling and carpeting but that's an easy fix). I like how this website has the floorplan - that's handy!
Thanks Scott!

Re: Wantagh

Wantagh Woods (if that's where the house is) is a very nice and desirable area...good SD too. That backyard is GORGEOUS for the area! Totally green and private - hard to find in some sections. Often with these homes you're paying for the area and location....things that cannot be changed!

HUGE garage too - 3 cars?! Some people don't even have a garage. I agree, the carpeting and paneling are cheesy but easily fixable. I'd want to replace the carpeting on any house I moved into. The bathroom is totally new and nice. Kitchen is very tired though.

Re: Wantagh

It doesnt bother me that some people on this thread do not like the house, that is mine. I am not going to take offence to this because it is not my house....But if it was, thats another story. If you don't like the house then thats cool.....Not everyone is going to like every house or every thing about a house.

The house has good bones, a 3 car garage, nice yard, nice exterior, redone bath.....Fireplaces, and tons of possibilities.

Sure there is panelling, and carpet - but those things can be changed inexpensively.

The kitchen would need to be updated, but you could live with how the kitchen looks for now.....And when it comes time to updating - you can do whatever you want. Your not stuck with someones updated kitchen that may not be your style.
