It doesnt bother me that some people on this thread do not like the house, that is mine. I am not going to take offence to this because it is not my house....But if it was, thats another story. If you don't like the house then thats cool.....Not everyone is going to like every house or every thing about a house.
The house has good bones, a 3 car garage, nice yard, nice exterior, redone bath.....Fireplaces, and tons of possibilities.
Sure there is panelling, and carpet - but those things can be changed inexpensively.
The kitchen would need to be updated, but you could live with how the kitchen looks for now.....And when it comes time to updating - you can do whatever you want. Your not stuck with someones updated kitchen that may not be your style.
Scott
I have to agree... Unless you are buying a new construction and even then you cant expect to walk into a house and totally love everything...

Re: Wantagh
I don't find that house "easily fixable" at all. All those walls with paneling means ripping out all the walls and putting up new sheetrock (usually) because the paneling wrecks the walls. The kitchen is a total gut. And no bathroom pics which probably means those also need to be gutted considering how outdated the rest of the house is.
BUT...knowing the area very well, IF it's overpriced, it's only a tad overpriced. Unfortunately...it's the norm for that area.

Re: Wantagh
IF the house is in the Woods it is just a LITTLE overpriced. - I personally don't like a ranch, but that house has a full basement (add an automatic $20k - $40k to the price in Wantagh Woods .......at least from my experience looking in the area) And a pretty big piece of property. - Plus a huge garage. Some people may not think it's worth THEIR money, but for the area and Schools - and compared to other homes in that area, it's not a ridiculous or obnoxious price.

I just realized you can map it - I don't think it's in the Woods, in which case I would say it's overpriced.

Re: Wantagh
It may be a little over priced esp since this market seems to be taking a turn for the worse, but as people have said it's LOCATION that counts more than anything in real estate because you can't change that. Wantagh and esp Wantagh Woods is a desirable area with a good school district.
The curb appeal is good, property is very nice....yah the kitchen is outdated but the bath looks nice, floors are good, looks like a newer window in kitchen, and it has a full basement and 3 car garage. The rest is remodeling to your tastes -- I am sure in 30 yrs we will love our houses but our kids will think our remodeled rooms are ugly. I would much rather have a house with good bones that I can remodel over time in a great area then a newer remodeled house in a crappy area.

Re: Wantagh
Its in the Forest Lake area- Im not sure if that school is still open over the path by the high school if so that is your elemetary school not the blue ribbon beech street school sd23 that everyone wants to be in. You do however go to wantagh middle and high school from there.
the price is actually cheap for wantagh even though its not in the woods. the woods are further south of there.
When my dad sold our house in wantagh woods where I grew up, a 3 bedroom ranch he made a killing on it!!!

Forest Lake Elem is still open. But this house is north of Jersulem, so it's Levittown schools.

Re: Wantagh
Maybe they have changed the district in the past few years, but as long as my family's been in Wantagh (over 30 years) anything north of Jerusalem was Levitown schools. Not saying it's a bad thing, just clarifying for anyone who really wants SD23.
