Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
It really is such a touchy subject and I personally am on the fence because I do think that at such a young age it can be wrong on so many levels . . . I wonder if she truly was OK with it . . . .

Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
Undecided. I think depending on the maturity level of the actress, it may be ok.
She's not the first one - Jena Malone was 10 years old when she was "raped" by her stepfather in ******* Out of Carolina. It was sickening to watch the scenes. I did wonder how they explained she should do the scene or what level of understanding a 10 year old has re: rape.
The other issue is that it's a very real issue & it does happen. Discussing it and educating the public has minimal impact compared to watching it happen.

Barb- I was TOTALLY about to bring up this movie- but could not for the life of me remember the title (had to go get the book out of my bookshelf).
By far- the most disturbing thing I've ever seen- it haunted me for weeks think how they could have put that actress (at TEN!?) through that type of scene.....

I am also on the fence about it. She definitely is mature for her age and I read an article where she talks about it and she really seemed to understand the role. I don't know, I'm sure they were careful w/ it, and I think her mother was always there. But I don't know how that can not be traumatic for anyone. Honestly, I really don't know.

I think it's completely wrong, a young girl her age should not be shooting scenes like that.

Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
yeah, people are getting older much faster these days. i'm sure she knows what she is doing as kids can act as a muture working person.
very touchy subject...but then again, if these kids (say the oslen twins) at the age they were when they were becoming bigger was able to lead there company to billions in profits, this girl is ok act a 'scene' in a movie...
sad as it is, these things happen and that what movies do, renact things...

Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
I'm in the middle about it...I think its very shocking that someone her age would want to play a role like this...and her parents would let her...but then again she is an actress playing a role...and there are girls younger than her who are raped everyday. and like in that video..Brooke Sheilds and Jodie Foster played prosititutes in movies when they were young...and Jodie Foster was even nominated for an Oscar for that role.

Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
If you read the article, it's very interesting. Dakota said she "had" to make the movie, that it's an important statement. I think, in this day and age, when girls are giving up their virginity at 11 and 12, a 13 year old actress in a role is not necessarily a bad thing. It may be disturbing, but I'm sure that's the point. It also says in the article that the woman who made the movie has been trying to get backers for this movie for over 4 years.

She seems like she knows what she's doing and it's her choice. I guess as a theatre person I see things differently, but I don't necessarily see anything wrong with it as long as those around her realize what a huge emotional impact it can ahve and she gets the right kind of support.

When I heard this story, that's the first thing I thought of! I cried like a baby when I watched that scene. Actually I cried through most of that movie.
I don't if I can say it's wrong to portray that in a movie. She comes across as someone who is mature for her age and I'm sure she is, already being in this business for a while. Reading the article, Fanning seems to be more than okay with it, as are her parents. I don't know.

Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
she is an actrerss and they sadly mature very quickly. sad to say but 12 year old are having sex quite frequently. If she can make a statement about it more power to her.
I dont think there is anything wrong with it, but I do hope that as a child actor she was provided with some sort fo counseling or debriefing so to speak after doing a role like this.

This poor girl is going to wind up on one of those VH1 shows "Child Stars...Where Are They Now?" and she's gonna be all cracked out.
They're pushing her too hard.

It's an unfortunate part of life that a lot of people turn their eyes away from. I believe Dakota's a pretty mature young lady and chose to do this, and I don't personally think there's anything wrong with it. It is ACTING.

Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
"Ms. Fanning was always clothed during the production. "
This and the fact that she WANTED to do the scene makes it, imho, not that wrong.
At age 12 I knew what was what- and I think she does too.
Although its not a scene I would want to ever watch - it would sicken me- it is an important issue and something that happens very often and will be a good eye opener to people and also win this actress some oscars and future parts along the way.

I don't agree with this one...sorry, but parents should be raising and telling their kids about rape, sex, etc..not some movie..IMHO..

Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Other actresses have done similar things and were not emotionally scarred. She was never undressed and was not actually raped, she is playing a role and knows what is going on. She probably wants people to see her as something different as the cutesy little girl she has played in her past movies and by doing something extreme like this she is breaking free of that image. She won't be the first to do this, and certainly not the last.

I think this is wrong. I agree with the article- they should have made the charcther 14 and hired a 19 year old to portray the role. I think exposing a 13 year old to this is just too much.

Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
I got chills just by reading the subject of this post. So I guess that tells me how I feel about it.
My gut reaction: She's a baby. She's a child. How utterly disgusting for someone to do that to a child.
I wouldn't want to watch that scene in a movie, but I'd also have to keep reminding myself that it's only a movie.
I think she's one heck of an actress for a little girl. She was in a movie with Robert DeNiro, and she played such a scary part. Totally freaked me out. ETA: The movie was called Hide & Seek.
