Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
"About the online petitions to have (the director) arrested, she said that the district attorney’s office in Wilmington was busy prosecuting real sex crimes, like one in which a 10-year-old girl was impregnated by her father. “All these cases are reported in the newspaper, and nobody ever calls them about that,” she said. “But they get 10 to 20 calls a day from people insisting that my movie be prosecuted.”
That pretty much sums it up.

Re: Was this posted already- Dakota Fanning in Rape Scene . . .
the only thing "wrong" with this situation is that is occurs in REAL life. there are little girls like this all over the world. if she is mature and brave enough to show the world what happens to some little girls, then more power to her.
it IS emotionally taxing, and I do hope like others have said that she has had some sort of psychological support, but it is important for people to see.
I agree with the director...it's amazing that people are more up in arms that this girl is "portraying" a child victim, instead of getting out there and helping girls who are real victims everyday. it's really so very typical.

Agreed. Maybe this movie will get the point across and open peoples eyes to the fact that this happends all the time, every day. Unfortunately.

That movie is every pedophiles fantasy. Besides the moral issues, who wants to actually see any child sexually abused by her father, then raped. It's sickening. I was sickened watching Tina Turner beat up in What's Love Got To Do With IT.

"see no evil" does not mean the evil doesn't happen...it just relieves you from knowing about it/having to deal with it.
lucky are those who can opt not to see the make believe...unfortunate is not the word for those who open their eyes to this reality every day.

But that is why the movie rating system exists. I don't think this movie should be compromised because of potential pedophile's getting off on it. They are the problem, not the movie. Regarding Dakota doing the scene- I am sure she, and her family, and a team of phychiatrists, decided whether or not she was emotionally mature enough to do the scene.

Undecided. I think depending on the maturity level of the actress, it may be ok.
She's not the first one - Jena Malone was 10 years old when she was "raped" by her stepfather in ******* Out of Carolina. It was sickening to watch the scenes. I did wonder how they explained she should do the scene or what level of understanding a 10 year old has re: rape.
The other issue is that it's a very real issue & it does happen. Discussing it and educating the public has minimal impact compared to watching it happen.
agreed. if dakota feels mature enough to take on such a role then thats her decision to make. she seems very mature for her age.

I agree too
In the movie a time to kill the girl who played tonya was only 11 during her rae scene and that was horrible but eye opening

I agree- it happens all the time- and if maybe it opens up 1 persons eyes and 1 little girl gets saved- it's worth it
she seems like she can handle it- she is very mature and a professional- which is also sad to me b/c I feel like she didn't have a childhood- but that's not the point
