Where do you suggest we stay? We would like to go for a long weekend and do all the touristy things- tour the white house, etc.
where is a nice - close to all, moderate hotel to stay at.
preferably in the 150 and below range.

we just stayed at the hotel melrose last weekend and its walking distance to everything (between white house and georgetown). we loved it. it's a 4 star hotel but you can get good deals on hotels.com (we paid about $150/night)

In the past I have stayed in Crystal City (hotels ) Many of them are right on the metro and it is a quick trip into DC. They tend to be cheaper than actually staying in DC and they are really easy to get around from and you are close to Georgetown which is nice to walk around as well.
