Irrelevant unless there's some childcare plan they're hiding.

i get that but I dont care at this point. they have to start opening with phase 1 child care or no child care! but when it comes down to it there are childcare places currently opened!

There are a number of daycares who stayed open and are reopening right now. Cuomo did mention today that he agrees that daycare is a big part of this equation.

they are opening manufacturing and constriction and retail pickup or curbside but daycares are open or can be now as far as I am aware.
I dont know I pay for daycare normally so if i had to go in i would be putting them in daycare.
is the expectation that free childcare is needed?
I get confused with statements of what are we supposed to do with kids

My DD's daycare is closed and just pushed the re-opening back again. They could compete with Cuomo for best carrot dangler.
I actually do have to go back into the office in the next few weeks and am totally fine with sending her back but I can't do that if they aren't open.
I am very happy that we are close to re-opening, just annoyed with her daycare

I'm praying by early June we start to open up. I'm really hoping for summer school/camps to be open in July.

If your kids are already enrolled in day care it may not be an issue but what about working parents whose kids are not in day care? If the camps don't open, what are we supposed to do with our kids? How do they expect millions of parents to scramble to find child care?
Not to mention, I have hired a babysitter to help me a couple of times during the week. She is "cutting me a break" because I am home and she is charging me $15/hour. Normally she charges $20/hour. That's $800/week that is not normally in my budget. An extra $3,200/month is HUGE.
ETA: I absolutely have no problem with people safely getting back to work but I just hope there are provisions in place that will protect parents with child care issues.

Also- with school age kids who aren't in day care. What are you supposed to do with your say, 8 year old, when you have to go back to work and schools are closed

Find a daycare, tell her to slouch and hope they don't ask for a birth certificate?

Re: we are at 5/7 to reopen!!
I heard Laura Curran on the radio this morning saying the contact tracing is out of her hands so that might be what hold us up in terms of reopening. She definitely sounded like she wanted things to start opening with measures in place to keep people safe.

Daycares are taking older kids during this time for this reason. It probably wouldn't be too much fun for her to be with toddlers all day but it's an option for people who are desperate.

I hate to sound like a downer but the last 2 spots we need to meet are the 14 day decline of deaths and new hospitalizations. I work in a large hospital and our covid census is just under 200 currently inpatient and on average we see 12-15 new covid positive OR suspected covid daily as of now, doesn’t necessarily mean they will be admitted though, so I think it may take sometime to get to those last 2 pieces but I’m really hopefully. We decreased our covid census from around 640 at our highest to around 190 currently which is huge. I think as long as people continue to take precautions that we can meet these quickly

Re: we are at 5/7 to reopen!!
instead of quoting what does everyone when school is over for the day? does everyone really work the same hours as their kids school?
my kids go to scope. SCOPE is opened by me if needed right now.
summer I would have to assume camps would be opening or some kind of daycare would be.
For phase 1 They don't expect everyone to be back at work anyway so they have time to open.
so they still have time to open daycares/camps

Yes this is not an issue for me as I have the luxury of a SAHD. Thank God for that. But just thinking ahead for everyone else because most people I know do not have that luxury.. My team has a bunch of working moms on it and they are already worrying about what they will do when the offices reopen. I guess, one day at a time at this point!
