We elnlisted DD#1's help to name DD#2....And got into a fight anout the nickname. WWYD?
We gave her the following names to choose from to see what she would say:
Abigail (Abby)
Zoe
Madeline
Olivia
Alexandra
Well, after she realized that her name can't be "Baby Sister"  she picked Alexandra which we are fine with. I asked her a few times over the next couple of days and she always says Alexandra.
So DH, was like, Great - that's the name, we are done. So I said- what about nicknames. He said Alex, I said Lexi(e) and he flipped his lid on how he absolutely DOES NOT want that nickname. I love it. Should I pull the plug on the name? He named DD#1, so I thought I would at least give my second kid a friggin nick name.  Am I overreacting? WWYD?

OOC , is this the exact order you asked her in ?
The reason I ask is because with DS, no matter what list of names we gave him- he would always say the last name in the list
And of-course, I am partial to Lexi for obvious reasons

Elizabeth's NN never even stuck right? Daycare calls her Ella but you mentioned that you were going to have them stop- or something to that effect.
Elizabeth and Alexandra sound great- both beautiful and timeless.
don't stress over the nn b/c it may not stick like planned.

I'm not a fan of nick names but if I had to pick I'd go with your DH. At least her nick name is closer to her real name.
If you want Lexi then just name her Lexi.

i named dd alexis because i loved the nickname lexi and i hardly ever call her lexi  cant u call her by whatever you want and he can call her by whatever he wants? i knew a kid in hs who everyone called beaver but i highly doubt his parents called him that good luck! i remember how hard it was picking a name.

I thought Ale's nn would be Lexa....didn't happen tho, not sure why.
I call her Ale from the Spanish pronunciation of Alejandra. DH calls her Alex.

Yay!! Alexandra is my favorite of the bunch. Alexandra Claire  I would not even mention the nickname and then start calling her that after shes born

First, love the name choice! And that Elizabeth picked it. Since this  of mine is still nameless, I've asked C what she wants to name the baby and she says Zoey (which we can't use)...or "baby sister" too 
ITA with someone else...go with the name and worry about the nickname later. See, I'm STUBBORN and I feel like why should DH get to choose any more than you get to choose, KWIM (that's the problem we're having with naming our baby right now since we both like different names )....but maybe once she's here and you start calling her Lexie, he'll concede.

I love the name Elziabeth picked. Dont stress over the nickname. Once she is born just start using it and hopefuly your DH will give in. Honestly, both nicknames are adorable so dont make yourself nuts over it.

I wouldnt fret over a nickname...
Caden was named Caden James so he could be called CJ. He has NEVER been called CJ...It just didnt fit him at all.
His nickname? BOOG (play on DH's nickname growing up having to do with our last name)
I have found that nicknames are something that just kind of happens not something that you really plan. You might very well find that once she's here...Alex suits her better than Lexi...or vice versa. Or perhaps Ale might stick...
My daughter is Alexis. She was named Alexis so I could call her Lexi. Growing up she was always Lex not Lexi. She is only Lexi now b/c SHE wants to be called Lexi and signs her papers in school Lexi and has everyone at school call her that....

This is what we're naming our if I have a girl, which I'm not even pregnant at all yet! I just LOVE the name and I LOVE Lexi, so I'm definitely biased, but I would definitely agree to Alexandra since all 3 of you like it and just dont mention nicknames yet.

What would Elizabeth call her? I'd ask her about the two nicknames bc realistically I bet the one she uses, is the one you use (I'm in your camp though - love Lexi )
I would decide before you name her though. My niece is named Victoria and SIL likes Vicky and BIL likes Tori. Well both families call her something different (our side actually just uses Victoria because it's beautiful and we're confused ) but it's still a debate at 1yrs old and it's a little weird.

I can relate to the nickname part.....
Looong before I even married my DH he told me the first son born would have to be named after him. Little did I know that he was the FOUTH!!! So, our DS is the 5th!!! Well...he wants to call him Bobby... which is hard for me, bc that's DHs name!! LOL... SO, I call him Peanut. DH hates it, but I love it.... and I gave birth, so what i say sticks. DH still calls him Bobby...and I do sometimes just so the kid doesn't get confused on his name...but still LOL

what about a nick name of alexa?
and i agree the nn may not stick.. if you like the full name go with it.. a kid can have more then one nn... my dads name is dominic, when he was a kid apparently he LOOOOVED the mickey mouse culb show and he quickly got the nn micky... has absolutely nothing to do with his name but hes now 60 and everyone he knows personaly calls him micky, in the business world hes Dom!

My DS ultimately helped pick the names for the twins too. We had narrowed it down to 2, and kept asking him which he liked, in different order. He always said the same boy and girl name.....so we went with it (the girl name was my favorite and the boy name was DH's fave so it worked out)
I wouldn't not pick a name b/c of nicknames. I didn't want to name DS Michael b/c I was not a fan of the nickname Mikey, yet I call him that more than anybody now....it fits him. If you love the name, I would go with it.
And just my 2cents, but Elizabeth and Alexandra sound beautiful together
