I also want to agree with Heather. Christopher has always been Christopher. Not really Chris, and we thought about calling him Trey since he is a III, or Chip after my uncle who was also a III, but nothing stuck.

BTW Kara, Ale SO answers to AleChat Icon

I think it is important to agree on a nickname before hand, or if you are going to use one at all. I did not want to name my son Anthony because I don't like the nick name "tony". We agreed to call him Anthony, and we do, and so does *mostly* everyone else. When someone does call him Tony, it makes my blood boilChat Icon

My name is Alexandra. My entire family and extended family call me by my full name. They always have and they always will. My friends in high school, college and at work all came up with nicknames for me. Some call me Alex, some call me Lexi, some call me Ali G (my last name starts with G). I didn't love my name growing up because there were never any mugs, stickers or pencils with my name on them but as an adult I grew to like my name because of all of the various nicknames I can go by.

It's actually all because of you Gina! Chat Icon Chat Icon

And I do think that maybe Elizabeth did pick it bc of Ale, Kara - but I don't think she's ever heard her called by her her full name. And I agree with Kate, she does answer to Ale!!

I have several nicknames that friends gave me that have nothing to do with my first name. Chat Icon So I agree with most people, you often can't plan it anyway.

My DS is named Patrick, but his initials are PJ. We were so hell bent on making sure no one called him PJ that *I* completely forgot about people calling him Pat. My DH calls him Pat. I don't love it, but I can live with it. And, I have discovered that daycare comes up with all kinds of crazy nicknames for the kids. Chat Icon

I love the name your DD picked out!!! You should go with it and not worry about nicknames. We named my DD Alexia and we call her Lexi or Lex. Alex was never an option because that's what we call my brother. But is it a big deal if YOU call her Lexi and your DH calls her Alex?

I have found that you can't plan nicknames. They often come up on their own.

I agree.

Advice from my friends was to pick the name you want & start calling the baby that - it'll grow on him & if not, after delivering the baby is the best time to bring up how much it means to you.Chat Icon

I think its a little silly to pick out nicknames NOW, KWIM? I mean once the child is born then you'll see what nickname will stick to her...Its not worth it arguing about something like that. Pick a name and thats it, take it from there.Chat Icon On the other hand, your husband should be a little more sensitive...I mean come on you're just about to give birth, rightChat Icon Chat Icon

I love Lexie. I think that's the cutest nickname. My cousin's name is Alexandria and we have always called her Ally. There are so many nicknames to use with that name that I wouldn't change it if you really like it. Besides, he may come around once she is born and realize how cute a nickname Lexie is. Chat Icon
