We have a new family member!
I had posted a while back about adopting a dog, and Sunday we found our girl! We put in an application to adopt her and brought her home around dinner time last night. We named her Allie. We are so happy to have her and I am so grateful for ALL of the help and advice from everyone here (and as a new dog owner, I am sure I will have more questions!)
She is about a year old, the shelter said she is a mix of boxer/beagle. I think she has less beagle and more pit in her myself. Definitely can see the boxer in her, I don't see the beagle though. She is a total sweetheart. She looks bigger than she is, people see her and she looks like a boxer with the mask, so they expect big. But she is only about 44lbs (she is overweight) and is shorter than both my DD's (so only about 30" tallish). The ACO at the shelter has dealt with the dog and her prior owner before, so was able to give us a good history and knew her living situation.
So far, she appears to be adapting well. She sits, stays, lays down, drops etc on command. She is housetrained, walks well on a leash. She snores, loudly. She has not barked once since we brought her home, but she did whine and whimper for a bit when we crated her last night at bedtime. She is doing well with the cats, too. My female made it downstairs to greet her last night and puffed herself up, hissed, moaned, growled, swiped, ran.... Allie ran away from her and then seemingly just wanted to play. Zero aggression towards the cat.

Awww what a sweet face! I have a boxer/pit mix and she is just a huge bundle of love. She seems like she has pretty short legs- that might be where the beagle comes in! Congrats!

which shelter did you adopt from?
I love her in the car--free at last!! :)
her legs look short--maybe beagle bc of that?? and her coloring is def. boxer---there are also pocket pitties--which are pretty small--maybe she is mixed w/ that too!!

We are in love with her. She is a doll.
strongisland, we adopted from Stratford Animal Control. They are wonderful, they really treat the animals well and work hard to get them into the right homes. I think if there is any beagle it is the short legs. She has a super long neck too, so I wouldn't be surprised to hear that she has pit in her as well. I personally think she is probably a boxer/pit mix.
