I would do it. Especially if you can put money to the side. It's only 3 years. It will go fast.
TTC is not a problem. England has great hospitals and Dr's.
It's a great opportunity as long as you and DH agree on it.

I would totally do it. I have always wanted to live abroad and if the opportunity came up I would jump. It would be hard at first but it just seems like an opportunity of a lifetime.

oooh, Rachel's going to kill me for this...but...
You might want to read this before you make any decisions... UK - Yankee Talk
I've been living in London for three years now and I have to say it's really hard. It's a great experience living elsewhere - it really opens your eyes in a way you never thought possible. But there are things that are really different - things that you never could've foreseen. Someone here mentioned that the doctors and hospitals are great here - I'm not sure I agree with this. I find the system extremely difficult to navigate. I miss my family horribly. The city is very expensive. The anti-Americanism really gets me down.
On the other hand, it's close and cheap to travel all over Europe. You'll have a super-long maternity leave. But the big reason why I would tell you to give it a go is because you know how long you'll be here. I think that makes it easier to get through.
I'm sorry I sound like such a downer, there are generally good things and bad things about living here. FM me if you have any questions.

I have never experienced any anti-americanism in the almost 8 years I have lived here...I find that really surprising!!! Again, I think its the difference in living in Manchester rather than London.
It is a complete post code lottery to whether or not you have a good experience with the NHS, luckily I have had good experiences with the doctors and hospitals here, I have a great GP, although she is in demand. If you are an ex pat with the government they will more than likely take care of private health insurance for you and your family, also they will probably give you a certain amount of money for travelling home and for your family travelling to visit you.
There are TONS of differences than in the UK, but it is a different country...so that is to be expected!!
Thanks for posting that bulletin board Farah....now I will never get any work done!!!
This thread has made me smile!
The little nice things

I think you should definately do it. I too am considering taking a job far away for a couple of years in order to make alot more money, save my current salary and come home to an easier life. If you have a house now, maybe you can rent it out (which is what I will be doing) so that you definately have a place to come home to, you still have your tax write off, and you're still earning equity on the house.

Re: We have an opportunity to live in London for 3 years...what would you do???
It sounds like an amazing opportunity for you all. Yes, you will be away from family, but only a short 8 hour flight. My SIL lives in Shanghai, China and misses everyone terribly. They started their own Blog site to share with everyone their experiences there.
I would go especially since the language barrier wouldn't be as bad as opposed to living in another country and not speaking a lick of the language. Good Luck with your decision.

Re: We have an opportunity to live in London for 3 years...what would you do???
I would go in a heartbeat. DH and I lived in Ireland for almost 2 years. A job transfer. It was a great experience and I am so glad we did it. Our son was born there as well. I say go for it. It is only temporary and family can visit.
