we just got horrible news..IT HAPPENED
looks like DH's company is going under and he will lose his job...I'm sick to my stomach b/c we just bought a house last year and we can't afford all the bills plus the mortgage on my salary alone
I just sent him a whole bunch of job listings from monstor, but still i feel helpless
this sucks sooooo much
Update***
They started trading the company's stock again yesterday but it plumetted down to $1.04...They can't pay on over 800 million $$ of loans...and no one wants to lend them money...as of yesterday a few companys made offers to buy them out, but they declined....
DH is just waiting for official word...he said everything was very quiet in the office yesterday and today you can hear a pin drop.
Update ************
Looks like tomorrow will be my DH's last day at his company...they are just going in tomorrow to discuss their benefits; however they might not get paid, so pretty much after that they can leave.....THIS STINKS
8/2***Dh still hasn't heard anything yet, just sitting in the office hanging out...but his friend that works down in Atlanta just called him and told him that his whole branch just got laid off
1:00 PM: Dh just called and said the company is closing a bunch of people already left but they asked some to stay to take phone calls and what not...they are working on a deal to get them paid for all their unused vacation and sick time...

I am sorry  Take a deep breath. What field is your DH in? Have him contact a headhunter. Will he be getting severance? Do not panic - it will work out!!

it will be ok- make a list of everything you can cut back on- you would be surprised how much you waste

he works in IT...he is contacting a headhunter as we speak....and I don't think he will be getting severance since the company is going bankrupt...
I can't believe this...we moved down the NC with his NY salary and it was mint...now I don't know what he will make...all the big bucks are in Charlotte or Raliegh and they are an hour away from our house

I agree with the poster above. it will work out. Also, an hr commute is not the end of the world. Lots of us do it.
If it's a good job and a good oppy, it will be worth it.
Try not to think the worst. Even if a firm goes bankrupt, they may still offer severance and he will get unemployment.
Hang in there.

I'm trying to stay positive...I guess i'm freaking out more b/c I'm a teacher and got hired late in the school year, so i'm not being paid for the summer...which means I don't get paid till September...and even if he does get unemployment it won't be enough to cover our bills
I can feel the vomit rising in my throat

Sorry to hear that. IT is a crazy world. You always hear of layoffs and such. I got into a position with the state. We also have a union so losing my job ever is pretty unlikely. See if any local universities down there are hiring. It's good pay and very stable.

do you have any savings at all? Something to get you through for a few months?
I find it hard to believe that within the bankruptcy, there won't be some severance..I hope there is for your sakes.

ITA. BIL is an IT and had a hard time finding anything stable. He now works in a hotel. This has been a great place for him to work, as he gets perks and has been promoted several times in a short amount of time.

Just to let you know I work at Stony Brook and took a small paycut as to what I would make in the city. But the environment is laid back. The benefits are awesome and it's totally low stress. No OT as of yet. And I work 8 to 4:30.
