We need a place for our cat to stay...UPDATE
next week we are having guest stay at our house. Our cat has only been with us for a week, but we don't want her to get upset with new people in the house. (They will be here for a week) What should we do? I was thinking about broading? Has anyone every send their cat to one of those broading places?. (this is all new to us) We live in Brooklyn, Crown Heights. If anyone knows of someplace, please let me know.
Thanks _______________________________
My step-children are coming, and they just called to say that their both afraid of cats. I don't know what to do. I don't have anyone house to take her to, so I think broading would have to do. Can anyone tell me about a nice place in Brooklyn. I really don't want to do this, but I don't know what else to do.

I wouldn't board the cat, that would be more upsetting to it than having people in the house. Unless they are allergic I would leave him at the house. He'll either stay away from the people or get along with them. But, especially since you just got him, I wouldn't change his home...he's just starting to get used to your house.

I agree, you'll stress her out more by boarding her

I wouldnt board the cat. I would leave everything the same. Who knows, maybe the kitty will love people. Our cats love it when people come over (and loved it when we did it the first week).
I even put out an extra chair for one, b/c she loves to just sit and listen.

No need to send the cat away! I have two cats - one doesn't mind when people come into his house and he'll act as he normally would. The other cat is terrified of new people, so she hides until she feels comfortable. That's the beauty of cats....they take care of themselves!

I agree. Changing their routine so soon may have a negative effect on her.

Re: We need a place for our cat to stay
You can always tell if a cat is stressed - they get dandruff. My vet told me this as every time mine come back form seeing him (their FAVORITE person) they get dandruff! Only lasts a couple of days

ITA... it's her home, too! don't board her... she'll never get used to visitors then...

Re: We need a place for our cat to stay...UPDATE
I'm so sorry. Are they afraid or allergic? If it's afraid, maybe you could talk to them about it? Especially since your kitty is sick - boarding may be extra stressful.
If you have no other choice then I would ask your vet. Usually they do boarding at the vet offices or they can recommend someplace good. I don't know the area so I couldn't make any recommendations.

me too. Whenever we have people over, Molly hides anyway. Especially if there are kids. My parents' cats do the same thing too!
ETA: If they are afraid, it may just be based on some past bad experience. DH HATED cats until he met my parents cats. They are all very loving. He liked them so much, that now we have two cats of our own! So they may like your kitty once they see that there is nothing to be afraid of. (If I shipped Molly off to be boarded, she would be pizzed at me FOREVER!)
