can i ask a few ques since my parents want to move down there within 3 years

the towns you saw, are there a lot of NYers there....

are they in the middle of nowhere or is there stores you know like old country road or jericho turnpike type strip areas

whats the distance between these towns and the closest city

whats the distance between these towns and the closest airport

how long is the flight?

That last house was something like 3500 sf.

Since this was our "maiden voyage", I don't have TONS of info, but I'll try.

There are many NYers in NC. Lots of people from OOS. Especially in the new developments.

There are more stores there than here. There are malls, strip malls, stores...you name it. Tons of restaurants. Not desolate at all.

We looked in Wake Forest, Cary, Holly Springs, North Raleigh. Shopping is 10 minutes from everywhere. Can't walk to stores, but the commute to a major store is minutes away.

The RDU (Raleigh Airport) is right in the heart of the Triangle area. About 20 minutes from Wake Forest.

We drove down but my aunt and uncle flew in from JFK. The flight was 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Dh and I are currently building a home in Winston Salem, we just signed the contract last week, and will be going down to the design center this weekend to pick everything out. Just wanted to let you know that I have heard some horror stories about centex we really loved one of their homes, but after hearing about their customer service decided to go Ryland

Good friends of mine just used Centex to build their home in Wake Forest and had nothing but wonderful things to say about them. They were always on schedule, emailed pics and updates once a week, and they got so much more for their money than with other builders in the same area. Plus they were just voted as one of the top builders of the year. I guess it's a matter of preference when choosing a builder.

Oh man...wonder why the red x's. Maybe because I used Kodak Gallery.

We looked all over. North Raleigh, Wake Forest, Cary, Holly Springs (which I loved). I lost track, really. The Dh and I need to go back without the kids to really have a better feel for the areas. I would love to see more.

And yes Allison...all of those houses were under $400,000. It's insane.
