Weaning Formula to Milk and Bottle to Sippy
Over the next few weeks we're planning on making the big transition to milk! I also want to try to get rid of the bottle at the the same time. Is this unrealistic?
I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. DD only has two bottles now. One in her crib first thing when she wakes up and then one when she goes to sleep. I know I shouldn't be putting her to bed with her bottle
Anyway, how do I go about this? My pediatrician said I could either wean to milk or give her straight milk and see if she takes it.
And for the sippy...should I take her out of the crib in the am, sit her in her high chair with a sippy of milk???
She does drink from a sippy now, but water only...she's a pro and has no issues with using it.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Weaning Formula to Milk and Bottle to Sippy
I transitioned slowly from formula to milk....1 oz milk/5 oz formula then 2 milk and 4 formula and so on.
Once they were fully on milk at 12 mos I went cold turkey on the bottle.
They don't sit down and drink a whole cup anymore. I give them a cup when they wake up and they drink half then I give them the rest with bfast. Then I give them some in the afternnoon and with dinner.

Re: Weaning Formula to Milk and Bottle to Sippy
While I was transitioning to milk I was also transitioning to straw cups from the bottles. DS was talking 3 bottles a day. I started with the afternoon bottle and gave it to him after he ate about 1/2 his lunch. after a few days I got rid of the morning bottle and started giving him the milk cup soon after waking up. Once DS was on full milk I tried giving it to him in the bottle, and he started to refuse it. so after a couple of nights of him taking FOREVER to drink his last bottle, I gave it to him in a cup at dinner (after he ate a decent amount) kept his bedtime routine somewhat the same, had to rock him a little so he was drousy when I put him in his crib (he used to fall asleep on the bottle) and he took to it right away !!! I was shocked !!!
Because you only have two bottles to deal with I would start with the morning one. Stop giving it in the crib, start giving it in a straw cup, and do the transition to milk so it doesn't irritate the stomach. After a few days, maybe about halfway through the transition you can start to adjust your bedtime routine and move the night bottle earlier and start the straw cup.
Good luck!!!
