Re: Wedding related - registries

George Forman Grill was a complete waste for us.

Crockpot/slow cooker - best invention ever! Especially in the winter for soups and stews.

I don't really regret registering and receiving my china, but we are married almost 3 years and have only used it once.Chat Icon And I can't say it's because we don't entertain, because we definitely do.

I got a TON of wineglasses that I never use. All they do is take up cabinet space!

Re: Wedding related - registries

for some reason I registered for 12 champagne flutes.. why? I will never have 12 people in my house drinking champagne at the same time.

I did register for 12 red wine glasses- which was great b/c i broke half of them!

I use my food processor, stand mixer, toaster oven, coffee pot all the time, although I wish I got the coffee maker that grinds beans.

I got a sushi kit- waste

Less glassware.

Get a great set of knives and pots & pans - it makes cooking so much more enjoyable!

Re: Wedding related - registries

I love to entertain so my china and crystal are invaluable to me. i think this is the kind of thing that you have to know about yourself, not by the recommendation of others.

Necessary:
Sheets and extra pillow cases
Nice Bedding (duvet covers, shams, etc)
Lots of towels!
Cast Iron pan
Enamel pans (they are really pricey Chat Icon )
Good knives
Stand Mixer and hand mixer (different things need different mixers!)
Barbecue tools (if you have a bbq)
Cheap hearty glasses, including wine glasses (they are easier to replace than the $25 - $40 ones!) - you can get a set of 12 at William Sonoma or Pottery Barn
Joy of Cooking and Betty Crocker's cookbooks
Serving pieces of assorted sizes
Serving Utensils
Keurig Coffee Maker (or any other 1 cup type coffee maker with the pods)
Toaster Over (don't go for one with too many options - the simpler the better!)

Not necessary:
Electric knife (still in the box)
Electric Slicer (also, still in the box)
Rotisserie Grill (again, still in the box!!)
Electric Can opener (we keep ours in the cabinet - it is so much easier to pull out the manual one from the drawer!)

I'm glad I registered for:
nice pans
bakeware
good toaster
good coffeemaker & grinder
kitchenaid mixer (don't use it often, but handy when I do and I would've never bought it for myself)

I didn't register but received and glad I got:
a Wusthof chopping knife (I use it almost everyday)
a large Le Creuset cast iron pan

I didn't register for but should've:
a couple sets of neutral color sheets
more good knives
lightweight mixing bowls

Re: Wedding related - registries

Just a little tip to help you figure out if you have enough on your registry. Take the number of guests invited to the wedding and double that number in items.

It sounds like a lot, but you have to make sure you have enough "gifts". It adds up fast too.

Like all your towels - each one counts has 1 item, but one person will probably buy you the whole set. So that would count has one "gift"

Re: Wedding related - registries

I have to say, almost everything on my registry gets used quite a bit.

the 1 thing I could have lived without is a coffee maker for 2 cups (with stainless steel mugs). it's still in the box from 3 yrs ago!

my kitchen aid mixer & cuisinart mini chopper get used ALL the time! Chat Icon so do all the gadgets I got like a bowl scraper, cheese grater, ice cream scoop, etc.
