The question isn't whether or not they ARE tacky. Tacky is an adjective. Used to describe someones opinion. We all have different opinions on what is tacky.
Try not to take it personally.

Re: Wedding Related...Sorry...Are these things tacky??

I didn't have any of those things at my shower (ok, maybe a game or two), but that's because my friends know it's just not my style. I wouldn't take offense to that if the bride is just a very low-key person and not into those kind of things, but I agree, it's rude and offensive to rant and rave about how those things are "tacky" - the bridesmaids should be more mindful.

Re: Wedding Related...Sorry...Are these things tacky??

I never understand this...the BM's deciding what the bride would want or not want? Anyone check with the bride herself?
Everyone is different and likes different things. There are ways to ask the BTB what she likes and doesn't like w/out giving it all away. Then, do what she would like.
My shower was exactly how I would have wanted it and was a total surprise. Wishing well, games, and a tropical theme (sorry, no wicker chairChat Icon , but I did have to wear a grass skirt).
Two of my BM's refused to have anything to do with the planning cuz they didn't agree. I loved, loved, loved my shower and lot's of people said they had the best time.

Do what the bride would like, it's her day not the BM's.

I don't think any of it is tacky..then again, I had all of it at my shower! I love wishing wells - you get so many useful things. The games can be corny, but they make things more interesting than just sitting and watching the bride open the gifts. I don't see why a wicker chair would be tacky either.

Re: Wedding Related...Sorry...Are these things tacky??

I don't like wedding showers, so I didn't have one. But, I respect that other people enjoy them and may want all of those things at a shower. I don't think any of that stuff is tacky, per se, but more that it is traditional to have it.

People don't think about how insensitive they might be before they say stuff. I bet when they get married, their moms will insist on the wishing well Chat Icon

I had all of that stuff. I was not into the wicker chair thing, but it was a surprise and my Mom got it and I sat in it and loved it! I did feel like I was going to tip over a couple of times thoughChat Icon

We did not play any traditional games. What my BP did do was have everyone in attendance write something about their relationship with me on a piece of paper and I had to guess who they were. It was personal and meaningful to me. I did not have a wicker chair. I didn't even really think about it.

My shower was last Saturday. I had a wishing well and we played a couple of cute shower games. This was with a group of women who are extremely classy and picky - No one thought it was tacky.

I didn't have a big wicker chair, but... I can't see that being tacky... ?

I don't think they are tacky.

The games are for the guests -- showers can be a bit boring to just sit there for so long. The games keep people engaged.

The wishing well is harmless and another way to help the bride & groom set up their home with little things.

Wicker chairs are a preference -- they are not particularly comfortable which is why I dont like them. But they are not tacky.

I could have written this myself!

Honestly, I find showers can be dreadfully borning without games or activities to pass the time.

The wicker chair - I can take it or leave it. I had one, but I never thought it was necessary.

I've never been to a shower without a wishing well, and lets be honest, you can get some pretty useful odds and ends in a wishing well! All that little stuff that's too small to register for but totally necessary in your kitchen!

ITA with this.

I think it's more "tacky" to comment on what's tacky than anything else.

This is what I think too and I think other people think this. Considering the fact that most of the people present will be women who are all married and older...I think they expect the games. BUt my imput is not wanted by these people.

Re: Wedding Related...Sorry...Are these things tacky??

here is what i think. at my shower we had a wishing well, that was fine. no wicker chair, and i think the only game was bridal bingo. which was fine b/c it opens up conversations. my mil took it upon herself to make me a sombero with a veil attached (shower was at pancho's) and made me a bo-k of gummi bears. did i love it? no, not really, but i went with the flow.

so, even if they are being obnoxious, chalk it up to their immaturity and try to reach a compromise.

Re: Wedding Related...Sorry...Are these things tacky??

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I would not necessarily call them tacky per se-- but, I did not have any of those things at my shower, nor did I want them.

I was adamant about a ribbon hat-- did not want it.. My friends made me a ribbon "handbag". We played one game-- and it was like a trivia game-- those I think are cute because people attending can learn a bit more about the couple, but some of the more traditional games, I just think are overdone.

Wishing Wells in general-- I don't get the point.

But, more importantly-- the shower should be what the bride wants. Plain and simple.
