Re: wee wee pad dilema
My suggestion, try a frame. You can buy it at Petsmart or Petco...places like that.
It's a plain white frame that just holds the pee pad so she can't drag it around the house or tear it up.
Also, I came across a site dedicated to Yorkie's only. I will post it here.
Hopefully it will help you if you need futher advice!

Re: wee wee pad dilema
I have two shih tzu's My experience is very similar to yours. I had my boy for three years first. He was a dream to train. I used repetitious words I would bring him to the pad and keep saying over and over... (I know this sounds silly, but it worked for me) Pee pee on pad, pee pee on pad.. and I would pat the pad with my hand showing him.
He picked it up right away. My female, Mia whose full name is Mia Bella.. ;) just like your SN, was very difficuly to train. She will pee on the pad and then sometimes it's off the pad on the edge, which goes under the pad on the floor! I tried the frame in the begining bc she used to tear up the pad too. The frame helped that problem. I have been training them to go out in our yard more recently.
Hope some of this advice helps you! Keep us updated!

Re: wee wee pad dilema
I just got a new puppy two days ago. Our 4 year old puggle goes on a pad same as your older one.
Im using different pads in different areas for my older one and puppy. What I do to train is as soon as the puppy gets up I bring her right to the pad. I keep saying "do pee pee" as soon as she does I reward her with praise and a treat. When she starts playing with the pad I gently lift her up off the pad but still over it and say firmly "NO" .. it seems to be working.
I have the pad in a corner - when we are there I put my legs against both walls so that Im the barrier if that makes sense. Im blocking the puppy in the corner with my legs so she has nowhere to go except to be on the pad. I do not let her out until she goes. If its been like 10 minutes I'll let her out but watch her very closely and as soon as I see signs I bring her right over and do it all over again.
If she runs over to the pad just to play I redirect her to a toy or something. Takes time!! Be patient. I know it gets annoying. Myhusband and I have cleaned up so much poop and pee off the floor in the past 48 hours.
Just be consistent! Good luck!

Re: wee wee pad dilema
nothing worked for my havanese. We ended up buying the reusable wee pads and they've been working out really well for us. Does the new puppy have run of the house? If she does I recommend crating her during the day or putting her in a pen. You really have to watch her and make sure to yell at her when you see her peeing where she's not supposed to. Make a loud high pitched noise to distract her from peeing, then move her to the wee pad and tell her to "go pee" or whatever phrase you choose. She'll learn to associate the phrase with the action and soon she'll start peeing on command. We're teaching my puppy this right now and he's getting pretty good but he's much harder to train than my older dog.
