Weekend trip in August - ideas?
Was thinking I'd like to get away one weekend in August after camp ends for the kids. They'll be 6 and 4. Maybe Hershey Park? Any ideas? Would it be crazy then?
We live in NJ so at the beach or our own pool a lot. Also have Great Adventure passes so we'll go a lot as well and to Hurricane Harbor. Want something a little different that we can drive to and not a fortune.
Going camping the end of this month with some families so after that the next trip I'll need is one that has a nice shower and clean sheets!!

We did Wildwood (I know you said no beach but the boardwalk and the rides and the tram as kids were great) and Seasame Place as kids at that age. I've never been to Hershey. Check tripadvisor for more crowded times.

A weekend in August at Hershey will be packed. Jam packed. Weekdays are a better option.

We spend a week up at villa Roma every aug.... It has tons of activities for the kids, even camps for them if you guys want to see an adult show at night. Pretty easy to get to from nj too.

Villa Roma and Woodloch are fun with lots of activities. If you like being on your own more, how about Philly?

We booked philly for mid July. Loved Boston too, but IMO, too much for a weekend. We also have done downtown Manhattan (statue of liberty, China town, Brooklyn and transit museum), which kids loved.

We did that during their Spring break and had a blast. Originally supposed to go to Baltimore for the weekend and heard it was going to be a wash out except for one day so instead we did day trips. Crayola Factory one day and the one nice day we went into the city and did a lot of tourist stuff I never get to do. May go visit friends in Boston since it sounds like Hershey will be nuts.

We've done DC for a weekend too... It's very nice (great food, walkable). You do have to plan a bit ahead to see the national sights. The museums are all free & they are great for kids those ages.
If you end up going to Boston, visiting the USS Constitution & the museum affiliated is a must (other than the duck tours & aquarium). We spent a week there last summer & felt that there was a LOT we didn't have time to see.
