That would be me!
You should definitely go! Like the saying:
"It's like trying to explain sex to a virgin"
There is no describing how incredible the feeling is -- you have to just do it yourself. The high lasts at least 2 or three days!

And to answer your question -- no, i don't think it's irresponsible. Your husbands illness is proof that no one is garaunteed a tomorrow and I give you props for wanting to live life to the fullest... whether it's skydiving, or planting a tree, if you want to do it, you should.

If you have been wanting to do it I say go for it!!!
There is a higher chance of someone dying in a car accident then from sky diving.

So as most of you know, my DH has terminal cancer.
In light of this I've been making some changes in my life and doing some of the things I've always wanted to do but have been scared to for some reason or never made the time for.
1. Shoot a gun - did that last weekend and had a great time.
2. Skydiving.
I mentioned to DH that I want to go skydiving over 4th of July weekend when some friends are coming to visit.
He has no desire to skydive at all and isn't really in favor of me going, but he wouldn't stop me from doing it.
However, it's been mentioned to me by more than one person that it's irresponsible for me to skydive because it could kill me and since DH already has a death sentence over his head I shouldn't risk it.
I'm making this anonymous so you can weigh in without calling yourself out, but if you have an opinon, I'd like to hear it either way.
DO IT!!!!! My dad just did it this Saturday at Skydive longisland and he said it was amazing. I was too scared, but after seeing him and my aunt and 2 cousins, i totally want to do it. it was a tandum jump.

Re: Weigh in with your opinion RE: Skydiving
I vote do it.
You are still a person. You are a wife and a mom, but still your own person.
I did it at 19 with Leo. That was the last time I will ever go again, I hated it glad I did it, but no thanks for next time.
Leo has gone a few more times, we never gave it a second thought. It is a chance of a lifetime. Never so freaked out in your life then flying up in that little plane, going higher and higher, knowing you won't be going back down the same way.
When they open that plane door, its a definite "oh sh!t" moment...a kind of moment that life is about. Out of your control. FUN. a little too out of control for me and a little too much fun
do it! because a different part of me, the part that is married, says do it so you can share the experience with Scott. Do it so you can sit and watch the video together.

Okay....first of all - you are not going to die going skydiving. Unless of course, you just jump out of a plane with some "guy". Any reputable skydiving place has hardly any accidents and I only know of one that has had a death.
Live your life to the fullest....do the things you want to do because if you don't you may regret it.
ITA with Gerty here. Go and have a great time

Re: Weigh in with your opinion RE: Skydiving
So here's how I feel...
I was TOTALLY ok with skydiving until I had my DD.. for me, I just wouldn't risk doing something THAT super dangerous (although really cool) because of the teeny tiny risk that something horrible would happen.

Re: Weigh in with your opinion RE: Skydiving
If it's important, than do it.
I wouldn't do it because it's not important. I used to want to skydive. I've been bungee jumping & now think about the long plane ride home with my sore back. So for me, it's not worth it. I have different priorities now.

Wow, never thought of it as you have to. Normally I would have said GO FOR IT....but then thinking about your what if scenario makes me wonder. BUT It hink in the end teh chances of something tragic happening are probably less likely then say a car accident and your gonna drive , so I say GO FOR IT!

If you want to, do it, don't worry about what other people think.
I totally admire you for doing it! The idea of me doing it is kind of cool, but the reality of it scares me to death!!

Re: Weigh in with your opinion RE: Skydiving
it takes a set of balls that I do not possess, so I won't be doing it.
that being said, my friend did it and LOVED it.
like PJB said, you do it tandem, with an instructor. and there are 2 parachutes for your live saving pleasure.
of course there could be some freak accident....but more likely than not, you will have the ride of your life and live to tell about it.
it would be good for you, I think. to face a fear and conquer it.
have a good time.
I saw a bunch of people hang gliding and sky diving in the mountains of Orange County last weekend.
it was so cool looking. I was in awe. Enjoy.

I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but I agree with this. I am answering before reading any of the other responses, so I am not swayed by other opinions.
I think if you didn't have a child, I would say have a great time and enjoy. However, I know for me personally, I don't think I could ever live with the guilt if something happened to me and I couldn't fully care for my DS.

It seems that you have children. What would happen to them if something bad happened to you. Your husband is already terminally ill. What would happen with your kids.

Re: Weigh in with your opinion RE: Skydiving
From someone who has gone skydiving—DO IT!! I got comments from my family too, my grandmother was in tears begging me not to go etc. But you can live your life in a bubble and still get cancer etc. I'm not saying people should be reckless, but if you have a passion to try something, you should follow it. Research the companies you're thinking of going with, make an educated decision and then enjoy every second of it!

Re: Weigh in with your opinion RE: Skydiving
I've done it 3 times tandem and I loved it. Never experienced a feeling like that ever, even on my wedding day!
That was 8 years ago when I was 27.
Ask me if I would go now at 35 and I would hesitate. I don't know why either. When I mention this to others they tell me it's b/c I finally grew up.
If you go, check out Sky Dive The Ranch, Gardnier, NY

Re: Weigh in with your opinion RE: Skydiving
If I were you and really really wanted to go, I would go for it. I agree - a tandem jump if what I would do. My brother did it that way and said it was amazing.
But personally, it's not something I have a desire to do or ever really thought about and knowing I have a baby couldn;t do it. But then again, that's probably because it's not something I wanted to do in the first place. I don't think I'm helping!
