weight question

I am self-confessed cardio queen. My idea of strength training is yoga and Zumba with wrist weights on. I never know what to do in the gym when it comes to circut training or weight machines. Where do you girls get ideas for strength training and how do you know what to do and when?

weight question

I worked with a personal trainer. It can be expensive but after some sessions I had a really good idea of what to do and when to do it. Then I would make up my own workout plans.

i agree with Colleen: working with a personal trainer is a great way to understand what you can do and how to do it.

if that's a bit out of your price range, i strongly suggest the book Body for Life. Bill Phillips does a great job about setting up a plan anyone can do.

Re: weight question

My husband and I both read books on strength training.

Between the books we developed a plan that works for us. I have been lifting for about 8 weeks and the definition in my arms is very noticeable.

Re: weight question

Take cardio sculpt/bootcamp type classes.

I have no ability to motivate myself to do my own strength training.

Taking classes forced me to do it, and after taking a few months of them, you pretty much know all the right moves to hit different parts of your body to do on your own.

Re: weight question

Thanks ladies, all good suggestions. I have always wanted to do the personal trainer thing, but I never took the plunge. Maybe I will try that.

Re: weight question

trainer is a good suggestion too. i will also say that like you i was a cardio queen too-ran all the time did the machines at the gym but had no clue how weigh training could fit in or how to do it. i was not losing any weight with my cardio routine and got fed up. i wound up buying jillian michael's 90 day body revolution and am totally amazed at the results. it is the first time i am really in shape. it's only 1/2 hr 4days a week for the weight training part.
intense but totally do-able. i always thought that weight training meant hours more on top of cardio, but it doesn't. i am so happy i figured out how to incorporate it b/c it has made a world of difference in how i look and feel.
good luck!

Where do you workout. I'm a trainer but more for my own knowledge fun. I'd be happy to meet you and help you get comfortable with the weights!

I workout at LA Fitness in Levittown, and that would be awesome! I really need some help and you have a killer bod. I am sure you could school me!

Thanks! It's not all that killer but I'd love to help. I'm busy this weekend but either one evening this week or next weekend works. Will they allow me to have a visitors pass?

Re: weight question

Do you have to strength train with weight machines? I can give you a ton of ideas that don't require them.
