Weird question for rap listeners
I am not a user of the "N" word at all. When listening and singing along with a song, do you sing around the word or do you say it? I was out on Saturday, only caucasian in the car, and Jay-Z's Jigga song comes on the CD. so I am singing along with everyone, then it comes to the part where it is "and who am I rollin with..all my..." everyone else (2 Puerto Ricans, a Cuban, and a Filipino) sing along and say the N word, but I paused didn't say the word then continued singing..
Now if I am in a car by myself or home alone cleaning or something, then I admit, i will usually not sing around it, but around others, I always sing around it.
Any thoughts???

I think it is hateful word that shouldn't be said.

well i rarely listen to rap but on the occassion that i do....yes i pause everytime

I dont like the word...and I get upset to hear anyone of any race say it. I listen sometimes to Star and Buck Wild in the morning and when he says it every other word I wanna scream at him ....

I think I have sung that song in the car and have said it. But I was alone and was just singing lyrics- to me it wasnt that I was bashing or disrespecting someone.
Now that you brought it up I dont know if I would sing it out loud around my friends who may get offended by that word- Just like how I dont like it when I hear someone say Spic- I get really mad- ( I am puerto rican & german)
its just such an Ugly word.

yes actually i used to go to a couple of clubs with guys from work, i was the only white guy and they were all black and they had no problems with it. The club that we used to go to they were promoting a magazine called urban somethin cant remember the exact name, however the their were maybe 4-5 other white people, but they all worked for the bar lol. They were actually shocked that i knew some of the more underground songs that you could never hear on the radio.

I dont know- I guess if your in a posse it would be cool, but I dont think in the "norm" its ok for a "white" guy to say the N word.

I have never said it.
In grad school, I was writing a paper on why Huckleberry Finn was controvercial, and I wouldn't even type it in the paper. I think it drove the professor crazy - but I explained my reasons....
